I have a strange workout issue. Lately when I run my pf will start acting up, eventually causing sharp pains through the sole of my foot...ok that I am used to but after that my foot goes numb and only slowing down to a walk fixes that. WTF?

I do get numbness sometimes. I've been told it's swelling related and lacing my shoes very loosely was recommended. That helped, stretching mid run, helped, and backing off a bit on mileage and the rebuilding slowly helped. I hadn't noticed it much this time around- but it started happening while I was running on the TM and then I noticed it happening outside more recently- I'm taking it as a sign I just need to give a little more time before I start running 5mi regularly. Last time, it did go away as I got a little stronger.

The pain is on the anterior inside of the hell. The numbness starts at my heel but my entire foot goes numb..it is always right after the pf starts throbbing (the pf hurts constantly but this is throbbing shooting pains).

I have gotten that advice before also but if my shoes are laced any looser they would fall off my foot. I suspect it might be swelling from the pf though but that would ne the bottom of my foot swelling.

Can you go to a toy store and get a superball/bouncy ball?  I think you need a 27 mm or 32 mm.  My physical therapist had me roll my foot over one.  It's got enough give that you're not going to get bruising, but it's certainly small and firm enough.  You can FEEL it breaking up bubbles in your fascia.

or the frozen water bottle!

I was at Target to pick up a couple things on my way to work and i actually almost passed out. It was really freaky. I had to hold onto something. I had a small granola bar of DD's in my pocket and ate it and felt a bit better, but omg, i thought i was going to go down! How embarrassing!  :e) I had eaten ok today too. I had tofu "omlete" for bfast, a bowl of quninoa around 11:45 before my run, an apple and a pear, ran for 50 minutes, and then headed to target. Totally bizarre.

That is really weird meri! Glad you are feeling better.

I met my dad here for lunch, and totally over did it: http://www.georgetownliquorcompany.com/menu.html We each ordered a sandwhich and gave eachother half. YUMMY!

I'll run later and do a light dinner, though. It's fine.

Oh I am super familiar with PF "cures" as I have struggled with severe PF for a long time. At one point a few years ago I was going to ART 2 times a week but I simply cannot afford that for something that only fixes the problem for a short while. None of the ball or ice things seem to make one iota of difference. The only thing that stops it is not running and never wearing cute shoes (which I pretty much do anyway). :( It got so bad that my chiropracter suggested that if I didnt back off running I may end up having it seperate completely from my bone. But I just really started up again so it sure as hell cannot be overuse.

But the foot numbness thing is new...at least in relation to this.

not sure what to tell you MM. Acupuncture and myofascial release would be what i would suggest next, probably starting with the MFR. You can go to www.myofascialrelease.com and see if anyone is in your area.

I am stuck, too, with ugly shoes... not to mention expensive, as a result of PF.  But it helps.  It really hurts when I look at all the nice shoe threads in yammering.  I want those, too.

MM, what running shoes do you wear?   Brand/model?   Just curious.  And what do youu wear all day on your feet  at work?

  PF totally sucks.

Yay...a shoe expert!

Asics 2160s...got a great deal because they are old. And I use superfeet.

At work I wear various sketcher sneakers.

I would wear your running shoes to work and see if that helps. I wear Earth shoes to work, they are negative heel shoes (heel lower than forefoot) and for some, not all, this can help with PF because it stretches out your achilles. I really do not care about cute shoes luckily. I also do not buy leather, so i am excluded from most shoes and handbags anyways :D

No morning run for me.

Another tip MM is try to alternate the shoes you wear daily.  That has helped me at work, it gives each pair a chance to rest.

Meri hope you're ok.  Are you hydrated?  That sometimes causes me to be dizzy.

I ran 3.5 yesterday and hope to do some today.  Got DH home late last night...we were both moody and hungry.  Hope today is happier.  Only had one potty accident yesterday and R requested he bathroom while out eating.... so I'm pleased with how it's all gone.  Must train DH now on how to manage it once I'm back to work tomorrow.

i did not take my morning allergy medicine yesterday and i think that was the culprit, headache, stuffy ears this morning. DH is home sick. DD was up once last night but talking in her sleep and kept waking me up. I just could not pull myself out of bed at 5:30 am :( I took my allergy medicine + flonase today. Still feeling foggy headed, but i do not think it is a cold, i do think it is still allergies. Stupid me for thinking 1 allergy med was sufficient  :eyeroll:

Asics 2160s...got a great deal because they are old. And I use superfeet.

At work I wear various sketcher sneakers.

The 2160s are a good stability shoe, so that's good.  And adding the Superfeet is great for PF.  But the shoes are old.  2 versions old.  How many miles do you have on them?  If it's over 450, get a new pair.  Also, consider the Asics Kayano.  Same stability of the 2100 series (the newest version is now the 2000 series) but with additional cushioning.  I wore this shoe when I struggled with PF.  Other similar models are the Brooks Trance and Saucony Hurricane.  Or the Saucony Omni, even.

Also, the Superfeet will last you about two pairs of shoes.   If you wear the Superfeet every day, you may need a new pair already.

Since you are on your feet all day at work, it may be a good idea to make sure your shoes have a good level of stability and cushioning as well.

The shoes are brand new but the superfeet are not. I used to wear kayunos and I really liked them but they made a change to them and they were rubbing the top of my foot raw. When that happened I switched to new balance but then all the pf started happening so I switched back to Asics. The other complication is that I wear narrow so selection islimited.
