I am eating a bagel thin that was fried in butter. Eff it, it's a disaster and I am hungry. Food cooked on my stovetop is my only option for something hot.

Glad the day off helped!

Meri, that sounds like a great dinner!

I was planning to run yesterday afternoon, but got a call from dd at 2 that I needed to pick her up from school because her ride was going to be super late. Spent 3 hours in the car instead of running. Traffic was soooooooo horrible!

I *need* to run today but my tummy is in a total uproar. :(

Thanks - I could use about 3 more days like that! It's kind of sad that I'm looking forward to next Friday's checkup because it means I get to come to work late. I'm seriously contemplating taking Reid's birthday off (11/28), taking him to his checkup, then sending him to school so I can get stuff done around the house for his party that Saturday.

i secretly hoped the hurricane was a miss and that i would send DD to preschool and then take a day off to myself :D HAHAHAHA.

Oh and remind me to NEVER EVER EVER get on the scale the day after eating chinese food! wtf was i thinking, I *know* i will be up, a lot, yet i got on there and got super depressed. ugh. i want to smack some sense into myself.

Awwwwwwww. Yeah, sodium bloat sucks. :( One of the perks of my otherwise crappy job is Christmas break and spring break. I keep Reid in school for most of those days - I'll keep him out here and there or pick him up early or something - and actually get time to myself. It's AWESOME.

after the couple issues we had last week with DD's school, oh and yesterday she did not play outside, the GIRLS stayed inside because it was so muddy from the hurricane  :grr: and i have been exploring my options. There are not many that i would consider, but looking, and some of it may take away a lot of my time with DD, but at the same time, give me more time to self and more time for work, so i am considering it. WIll prob post more in yammering when i need some more ideas on what to do.

yeah i know. it is this batshit crazy director, she is the issue. She said the girls had to stay inside because it was too muddy. I am pretty sure I found a place for her, just trying to figure out Tues and Thurs afternoon childcare options, because DH cannot get to her before 5:30 most times. Just emailed the admissions person about it. There is the super fancy Waldorf academy as an option as well, but the cost is quite prohibitive. I am going to apply for financial aid, but the price increase from Prek to 1st grade (and inbetween) is so steep, that I fear that we would not be able to send her there past kindergarten :( This other place is just preschool and K, so all kids move up after that. Ugh.

Yeah, I'm starting to look around at options other than the neighborhood school, just in case it goes to shit in the next few years, and good lord. I really don't think we can afford any other options. It's mind-boggling how much private school would cost.

yep. i assumed we would send her to the charter school in the neighboring district, but 75+ kids on the waitlist for K and 60+ for 1st grade :( I will try, but really not hold my breath. The place i want to send her is $10,000 for their preK, $14,000 for K4 and K5, $16,000 for 1st grade. We could probably make it work for $8-10,000/yr, it would probably negate any savings we could accumulate and put any luxury out of our reach, but i think education is really important. They offer financial aid and the woman said on avg, you get 50% of what you need, so if the 3rd party company says you need $4000, they give you $2000. My concern is that we would be priced out of the school pretty darn fast :( There is a preschool that is $3000/yr and about $250/month for extended day, but leaves us with the evenings to figure out on Tues and Thurs. The Waldorf school (the pricey one) has a pickup and drop off to where DD is now (i would be fine with her there for 6 hrs a week and she will go there in the summer). There is a Montessori school near my office but it is $11,000/yr and no financial aid. Sigh. This sucks. I feel like a loser. There is the alternative school that would be probably at most, $10,000, but I would like to wait until 1st grade to send her there.

meri, I don't think you should feel like a loser b/c you can't afford the fortune it would take to send DD to private school for many year.  It's expensive!

There are so many great public schools in our area.  Are there none in yours?  (if not, sorry)

kinda a long story, but both DH and I had really bad public school experiences. The way our school districts are divided, ours is very far away. There are 2-3 closer districts, but the districts are divided quite oddly. The school is fine, but I am really a fan of private school education and the more personalized teaching and no teaching to the tests. We will find a way to send her to private school, but it may not be my top choice.

One of the reasons we bought our tiny little house was because of the school district. It's good now, but in 3 years, who knows, you know?

Ok, so I guess a busy 5k weekend, followed by the stress of a hurricane, followed by being chilly and eating comfort food is not all bad - I have lost another 4 lbs this week and am down 23 lbs overall since I started in July. I want to get another 5 or so down, and then I will work on a plan to maintain.

I have to say, I think WW really opened my eyes to some basic things that worked well for me. I don't think it's anything magical about the points, but really the overall way of thinking about meals and stuff. The tracking forced me to account for what I was eating and I pretty much eliminated mindless grazing and snacking. And I cut out a lot of junk and included more veggies and fruits. Plus, it gave some added motivation to increase activity, which I definitely did - it was like a little competition with myself to earn those activity points, or to have the incentive to have a treat if I got activity points for the day. It gave me a way to make different decisions - ie, I'll have the beer or the dessert, but not both. And I know I don't do well with deprivation (or feeling that way) so it was also good that there is a margin for treats once in a while, and that it gives you a fresh start (new points every day/week) if you feel like you totally went overboard at any point (like on vacation or something). Whatever that combination of things adds up to, it is working really well for me.

good news, cgraz. I know when i started WW years ago, it really showed me TRUE portion sizes. Portions are SMALL :(

Oh and no public school has full day kindergarten :( that is another reason to send her private.

Yeah, it's amazing how small portions really are. I keep telling DH, the recipes we make are intended to feed 4. If you eat half of it....

Luckily (?) for me, I get my portion, I serve one up for Reid, and if DH eats the rest, I don't have to worry about going back for seconds. WW has also helped me make better decisions - like I used to eat pretzels with my lunch every day, but they weren't worth the points, so I swapped to veggies and hummus. Of course, now that sounds disgusting, but it worked really well for a long, long time.

At the moment, I'm a salt zombie. You know how zombies shuffle around, moaning, "Brains.... braaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnns...." all the time? Yeah, I do that, only I'm moaning "Saaaaaaaaaalt....saaaaaaaaalllllllllltttttttt." It's ridiculous.
