So I made it 3 weeks on the whole 30 and I felt great. Lost a few pounds. But with being so incredibly busy with so many changes in my life (AGAIN!!)  I lost the my mojo to plan all my meals and then everything went to hell. Now I'm all bloaty, itchy, and bitchy again.

Soo.. Starting on the 10th, (because my birthday is the 9th) I will start over. I got some good results as far as my blood pressure, overall happiness, and general energy go. So I am going to use that as a motivator.

Maybe I'll have time to post here again!

Maybe you could consider planning some meals, but not all.  This would be an easier way into transitioning into a new life style.  It would avoid the feeling of "failure".  It would also be easier to maintain the new habits.  It does not have to be all or nothing.

Funny. I Don't feel liked I "failed." I mean, yeah I couldn't make it the whole month. And I'm okay with that. It's just I need to get better at planning meals or else I fall back into my go-to meals of sandwiches and pasta and sugar.  :preen:

Went to the doctor today... I'm 11 lbs lighter than 1 year ago!  Down 5.5 lb in about the last month, when I started weighing myself regularly again (and wearing my Fitbit).

Wednesdays are my night to cook.  I made a pasta salad with whole wheat pasta and olive tapenade as the dressing, to be served over mixed greens and alongside chicken sausages.  Mmm.

Hey, first time I've checked out this thread. I've been low-carb for 9 days and have lost some noticeable weight. Struggling with the "flu" a bit, I think, but overall doing fine.  :) Way to go, peeps!

Greenman, have you tried upping your salt/potassium?

Hadn't thought about it. I'm heading for the gym in a sec and I'll take a sport drink (homemade, no sugar) with some of both. I am salting my food pretty regularly. Would you recommend switching to "lite salt", that stuff with half NaCl and half KCl?

I usually would take either an electrolyte tab or drink a cup of boullion.  If it's going to fix what ails ya, you'll feel the difference quite quickly.

I'm starting the Whole 30 tomorrow (grocery shopping / planning today). I'm living alone for the next 5 weeks, so it's pretty good timing to not have to deal with other people's eating habits.

I've been dealing with a bunch of vitamin/mineral deficiencies over the past year despite eating 'healthy', and spent several months getting tested for a slew of possible GI conditions. None of which I apparently have. GI doc told me to just take a multivitamin and supplement as necessary :skep:, so I figure experimenting with my diet can't hurt too much...

Any tips?

Yeah, it's extreme. But since I went through a ton of GI related tests recently I'm certainly willing to consider that food sensitivities of some sort could be related to my vitamin/mineral absorption issues. I don't really want to spend the rest of my life having blood drawn every 3-6 months to check on things and supplementing to fix problems; I've already been doing that with iron for almost 10 years.

I don't have the bio background to properly consider the scientific references the whole 30 group names but the self-experimentation aspect of it interests me most. It is essentially an elimination diet (which my doc had suggested I consider trying, anyway) where you add things back in one at a time after 30 days of restricted eating. I have no intention of eating this way long term (give up wine and cheese?  :nono:) but am hoping I might learn something useful about my body's reaction to foods. And giving up added sugars doesn't seem like a bad idea either.

qarhon- good for you!  I don't have many tips for you, but I do have some.

The first week might be brutal.  Day three I would have killed for bread.  This will pass.

Plan for your weak points, whether it be hunger after work/before dinner, emotional eating, or eating while traveling.  I keep bags of baby carrots to snack on while making dinner, a few black olives maybe.  Emotional eating, well, the only time now I CRAVE grains is when I'm upset.  I know that and simply ignore it.  And as far as meals while traveling, most of the major grocery stores around here have excellent salad bars where I can fill up to my hearts content on good greens, shredded zucchini/squash/cabbage, etc.
