Is anyone else here doing CrossFit? All-smiles?

I lost those salty pounds after my post-pasta bloat, so I am hanging near goal weight again. We'll see how it ends up this week.

For the paleo stuff, when mr. cgraz did it, I found that weekly food prep was the key - so have plenty of fresh veggies & fruits cut up and ready to go, and do stuff like grill up a bunch of chicken or something. It definitely helps! (And that's true with any kind of healthy eating plan...)

LOL.  It took me a week before I stopped wanting to stab everyone I saw.  Then the "flu" hit.  Drink boullion.  Maybe take some potassium.  It passes.  Honestly, I don't think about bread anymore.

It looks like it requires a lot of planning!  It's definitely not for me, but there are actually vegetarian Paleo followers.  not sure what they eat other than vegetables, nuts and eggs.

And I'm on day 5. and I sooooo wanted a dq dipped cone. Like bad.

I DID say no to cake yesterday and a cookie on day 2! Little victories.

oh.. and my bottom number of my blood pressure is down significantly.

And i don't feel so bloaty and fat anymore.

Some people don't get the "flu" at all, some get hit really hard with it.  I was whalloped!  It usually begins at around the seven day point and there are a lot of theories why. 

First, it is associated with lowering carbs.

Some feel it's a carb withdrawal.
Others feel it's forcing the body to use fat burning rather than glucose burning.
Others feel it's an electrolyte imbalance.

Having been through it, I'd say yes to all three.  Boullion helps with the electrolytes and is surprisingly yummy.

I had the carb flu and one was one grumpy, exhausted witch :grr:  And even worse, I've backslid the last few weeks and am going cold turkey again tomorrow :pissed:

I've heard that if you've been through it once and not a huge amount of time has passed since falling off the wagon that the second time around is not nearly as bad.

Thought I was at my goal weight.  Started eating more and lifting to try to pack on some good muscle.

Lost five more pounds.  Weighed in this morning at an absurd 171.5; this is a number that I don't even understand.  Thinking about reintroducing the carbs just to avoid losing more, even if it means I tack on some crap.

Way to go Bob!  You're at a point that worries me a little.  I love what I eat and how much I eat.  I'm kinda hoping the weight loss slows/stops as I reach where I want to be so I don't have to change anything.

Day 10. still no sugar and all that other stuff! I couldn't believe it was possible to have stew without rice.. but today i did just that.

So far so good. I honestly do not think I can live like this forever, but it has given me a nice foundation of healthy food combinations that don't include bread or rice.

For now, I'll see if I can go a few more days.. then a few more.  :) It has been a wonderful detox for me.

Yeah, if nothing else it does prompt you to create a different kind of variety and changes some of those "go-to" food assumptions, like the need for rice.

Have you tried mashed cauliflower yet? I loved having that as a base for something like stew or chili. So yummy. I don't pretend it's mashed potatoes, I take it for what it is, but it is very tasty and makes a nice combo with those kinds of things.

Tricia, are you allowed other kinds of grains? I was a HUGE rice lover but have learned to skip it most of the time. Sometimes I will use farro or barley (not pearled) instead.

I think us moms/parents need to be really careful about how we are around our kids. Our neighbor is 8yo and she is underweight for her age, always has been small, just like DD. Her mother is an eternal fad dieter (she is doing a detox diet right now) and the little girl refused a piece of cake the other night because she thinks she is getting fat.  :'( I am very careful about what i say around DD but i am going to be even more careful as she gets older. I grew up with a mother who did lots of fad dieting and it was really hard with my relationship with food. Hearing this 8yo talk about what her mom eats/diets/etc is really upsetting and always a good reminder. I know I am not perfect and there are times where i will say something to DH like, i am not going to eat that, it will make me fat, or that is too fattening for me to eat. DD is not part of the conversation, but kids are sponges. Must rework my wording, like, that food does not make me feel good when i eat it or that i am just not in the mood for it, instead of villainizing foods. I know in Dr Sear's healthy eating book for kids, he talks about discussing with children how healthy foods make them strong and grow and feel good, vs junk which does not.

I think it's okay to be firm with your kids.  For example, if you teach them about insulin response, then they'll know that while sugar-loaded junk makes them feel GREAT for a bit, the lift will ultimately leave them even more hungry and unsatisfied than a piece of fruit and some yogurt.

Since my whole family has always been overweight, we are careful to try to set up good eating habits and push her to try lots of healthier foods.  We also try to reward good deeds with non-food rewards, but I also feel the occasional ice cream needs to be part of a kid's upbringing.

Balance and awareness, right?

So I'm going through my clothes and trying to organize for the season. I have 4 sizes to pack away - hard to believe just last summer, I was wearing the biggest of those. I'm torn about whether to bin them up and keep them packed away, or donate/give away. What if...

I'm still not confident in my ability to stay this size for the long term. I spent most of my adult life in the mid-range of the sizes I am packing away. This is uncharted territory.
