WTF? Nobody has been perpetually ranting since June 29th?
 :pissed:

I perpetually rant about my colon.
So, who else has something that is always a thorn in their fitness side?

Currently still raving, no rant.  I hit the bottom of weight loss and am now trying to eat more, which has always been difficult point for me.  I'll get over it.

Here, here.

I'm trying to find a way to eat at a level that lets me maintain my current weight or gain lean muscle as I lift more.  It's very difficult for me, since my normal body type is quite big.  I can usually put on muscle quickly, but I'm afraid to load up on protein like I feel like I should in fear of packing on lard.

I've hit a plateau: Four straight days at the same weight. Pondering how to shake myself out of it.

Rave:

I finished my Whole 30 (no dairy, no grains, no added sugar, no legumes for 30 days) earlier this week. I wasn't super careful about additives, had a beer on the 4th, and occasionally had a glass of wine / fruit popsicle / dark chocolate, but otherwise stuck with it. I was interested in this both as an elimination diet and for maximizing micronutrient absorption after having several deficiencies during the past year and going through a bunch of tests which didn't find anything helpful.

I lost 5 pounds without trying, and was rarely hungry. I have way more energy after lunch instead of my usual afternoon slump + immediate snacking (usually cheese) when I get home. I didn't have too hard of a time adjusting at the start, but I think that was in part because I was careful to make sure I ate at least 100g carbs/day (sweet potatoes and bananas mostly) and avoided the effects of going too low carb. Spent a lot of time cooking and spent way more money on groceries than normal, but I also hardly ate out and ate a way healthier diet than I might have otherwise while living alone for a month. I've also been increasing my running distance during this past month from being able to handle ~3 miles nonstop to now doing 6+ miles -- I've never run this far before and have no clue if it's at all related, but I feel great.

One interesting side effect is that my tolerance for alcohol is super low now -- I easily feel the effects of 1 glass of wine -- curious if it's related to carb/fat/protein intake since I don't usually drink a lot anyway but can typically handle more than that! I haven't been great about adding things back in one at a time for the elimination diet aspect, but I think I'll probably mostly continue eating this way for awhile. I had a physical last week and am curious if I will see any changes in my vitamin/mineral labwork.

My n=1 experiment went well, and I'm pretty happy about it...

I was down 5lbs when i returned from Death valley, but i think most of that was probably water weight, however, i ate very little while i was out there. Mostly because i was having stomach issues. I am not sure if it was from the heat, or because I had a runner who was much faster than myself and running harder than i am used to (even for short distances at a time) at that temperature, was probably the culprit.

I'm trying to bring things back into my diet to determine what sets off my allergies.

So far, I'm totally confused.  Popcorn is OK.  Gluten free products are NOT OK.  Still trying to decide if it's coincidence.  I've tried one bread and one soy free, dairy free flour mix.  I feel like crap within a half hour.

Are there any common ingredients in the bread and the flour mix?

Still maintaining ok here...doing the usual summertime cookouts and stuff and indulging within reason. Part of me still wonders how long I can maintain this weight/size, but I think as long as I continue exercising regularly and eating reasonably, I'm ok.

Off the top of my head- potato, rice, tapioca.

Not the usual suspects.  I also had trouble with quinoa.  ????

Can you explain what "feel like crap" means?

My allergies come back, full bore.  One of the surprising things to me about the whole diet was that my allergies went away.  Years of taking allergy meds every single day and then *poof* they were gone.

1/2 hour after eating, my nasal passages swell, the headache comes back and I'm exhausted.  Vaguely nauseous.  It will last at least 4 hours before settling down a bit and will be gone 24 hours later.

Pretty much.  Paleo in general.  No dairy, no legumes, no sugar, the only grain I ate was a small bowlful of oats in the morning.
