Great job MoS!  Are you doing specific ab work as well or just diet and running?
Good luck meri  :)

I do a lot of core with the trainer, but that's just once a week.  On my own I usually try to do a few planks after I run.. Maybe some leg raises and crunches, but I'm not good about it. My core is very weak so I can only do the basics.. but the basics seem to be working for me.  And the pushups.. They help overall. I read that pushups are the best thing for an overall body workout... I still do the girl ones but I think if you hold your core tight it still works your core a bit. Another thing with the pushups is instead of girl ones, you can do them on the stairs and as you get better lower the step.  But I don't have stairs in my apartment.

Great job everyone on the weight loss!

I've been lurking but rarely get the chance to post....I hate posting from my phone and that is where I do my lurking from.

I did great at eating day before yesterday and got in a fantastic 6.6 mile run.  Yesterday's food wasn't too hot but spent the morning at the toddler gym bouncing around.  This morning we went to story time and they were both so well behaved I couldn't believe it!  They both sat through an entire book....amazing.

I'm doing some Mother's Day baking today.  Rachel isn't napping while David is.... so makes it a little difficult, and I've not gotten a run in today.  I did, unfortunately, have to do an emergency dog washing session because both dogs visited the cow pasture next door and perfumed themselves with cow shit.  Ugh.

Good luck to those racing this weekend!  Also Happy Mother's Day to you moms out there.   :bouquet:

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Food-wise, I've done okay. Not great, but okay, and I'm cool with it. The numbers on the scale are still generally good numbers. Going to a movie tonight and I will probably eat a burger and fries while we're there, but I haven't had a damn burger since Easter and I want one. And this place has pretty decent ones, so I will have a burger and a cider and fries and will not feel a whit guilty about it.

That's great, debba.  I'll take a good day over a bad one any day.  How did the graduation go?
Meri, I can't wait to hear about your race.

Bolloxd, I'm jealous of the 6.6 run.  I haven't had time to get in a long run in a few weeks.  It was my only Mother's Day wish to go for a long run today but the weather had different ideas.  I don't mind running in the rain (and I did this morning) but the tick season is SO bad this year and I didn't want to take my dog on long trails to get super muddy and full of ticks in the rain (he's black).  So I was limited on where I could run on pavement.  Only 3.

I wasn't tremendously good today but made good choices instead of bad (e.g., egg white omelet at the breakfast place w/ wheat toast, said 'no' to potatoes) and dinner was full of veggies.  And actually...we only ate two meals today.

not much details about my race. I ran 50 miles. I was planning on 60 but i wanted to sleep a few hours since i had to drive myself back home (and the ride up took about 4 hours!) and i just could not sleep. I spent 2 hours awake in my tent, too much race noise and then i spent 4 hours in my car and barely slept. I was really cranky and just called it a day, hung out, cheered on friends, showered and packed up my tent and stuff. I knew like almost every runner there, so that was really fun. I did not eat much during the race but we went to the vegan buffet for dinner for Mother's Day and ate a whole bunch of food and more. I may explode.

Nancy Clark, the sports nutrition guru and author of Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook, has an office in the Boston area and I'm considering making an appointment with her.  I just am never sure what my caloric needs really are.  A couple of sessions with her will run a few hundred dollars, she doesn't take my insurance.    I think it's worth the investment, I'm just having trouble pulling the trigger...

sounds like a good investment to me, Caito, especially since you're on the cusp of something new and the help might get you there faster

meri, 'only' 50 miles.  you are amazing.

I know. My goal was only 60 miles, so not too bad. It was super hot and i was just exhausted from the start of the race. It was a great time seeing all my friends who i have not seen in a long time. And then there were a few people who i did not know, but knew me. One of the top runners stopped and said "i saw your badwater picture in ultrarunning magazine" i was like, wow, pretty cool. It is amazing how a lot of runners keep tabs on other runners, i am so not like that and just do my own thing, so it is always amazing when people know what i have been up to. There was this older couple that i always see there and they were in the 72 hours, moving slowly but surely the whole race and a lot of men, especially older men, at the end of races, do the ultra lean, where they are leaning to one side, and this couple, both of them were leaning, but towards each other, it was pretty cool.

on a side note, at this race last year i was "poisoned"  because they fried all the food in bacon fat, even the veggie burgers and vegan soy cheeze burritos. they were totally innocent about the mistake and i even felt bad mentioning it to them. well, the RD and the staff had a separate grill, labeled with a huge sign for people to use for just the vegetarian food and a huge selection of food i could eat. It was really nice. I ate a bunch of pierogies and i am convinced that is the best race food :D

Graduation was LONG and I was on my feet for almost all of it. Oof.

In other news, my coworker who graduated this weekend (different school) keeps bringing in cake that other people keep giving her. GAH!

Went to see Avengers last night (it's awesome), and it lasted longer than I thought, so no getting up this morning. :( Planning on tomorrow.

Nancy Clark is so nice!  I emailed her at 7:30am to ask for an appointment and she called me back at 9am!  I get to go see her on Thursday afternoon.  I can't believe how quickly she responded and how soon I can see her!   I mean, my impression of her is that she is one of then nation's most well known sports nutrition experts.  And my appointment is 1.5 hours long.  $210.   Considering how much time/effort/emotional turmoil food/eating costs me, I think this is well worth it.   I can't wait til Thursday!

Yes, this!  One of my best best buddies is a serious tri guy (and lately a really really serious cycler) and he swears by her guidance.  (I used to tease him for always having the perfect packed snack on hand.  But his granola baggies came in hand more than once :)

I can't wait to hear your report.  I had a friend in the Boston area who went to see her.  She reported a negative experience, but the friend was rather critical and negative about everything.

Have you ever heard of the Kushi institute?  It's not far from where I live, and apparently, it is world famous.  (hard to believe).

Remember SGH? she went to a lecture of Nancy Clark and really enjoyed it years ago. I also believe Nancy Clark touched on why a lot of very active women cannot lose weight. I think this will be great! i cannot wait to hear how it goes.

I am so excited.   I started doing my homework for my appointment yesterday, writing down what I typically eat and my exercise habits.  And then I kept writing a bunch of stuff that popped into my head that is related so I won't forget anything.  Poor Nancy, I'm going to talk her ear off!  :D
