My allergies come back, full bore.  One of the surprising things to me about the whole diet was that my allergies went away.  Years of taking allergy meds every single day and then *poof* they were gone.


Sounds to me like the allergy meds did not work for you.  Did you take them while on whole 30?

No.  After relying them for years (we're talking over a decade that I'd be worse without them, and that worse was asthma/rescue inhaler) I did not need them once I was on the Paleo diet.

Have you tried potatoes alone, rice alone, ect.

Not yet.  Gotta let this bout simmer down first.  Yesterday I decided to make sure it wasn't a fluke thing so I had the GF free flour for lunch too.  Blerg.  BAD idea.

What if, eating potatoes and rice on their own, organic non-fortified cr@p, I don't get a reaction?  I happened to think of that, that the popcorn wasn't fortified or treated with anything.  It's just 100% corn I throw in the whirly pop.  The oats I eat in the morning that are fine are 100% oats. 

I've always thought that GF seemed overly processed, is there something they do to that stuff that would trigger?  It's not like I'm totally eating organic as I'll occasionally eat liverwurst that is chock full of preservatives, but otherwise I'm not eating much at all in that department.

GF food labels are worth reading, just like any food in a bag or box.
All kinds of processing going on.

With my little experiment, I've noticed a return of some gi issues with some GF crackers, cereals. Processing, baby.

I find the GF foods pretty hard on the digestion since they all have a million flours and sugars and gums and stuff.  I just don't eat any of that stuff.

You can make your own flours, even just using a magic bullet or blender. I have made rice flours and oat flours in my blender with the grinding blade.

so i know a few people here went gluten free. I did for a short while earlier in the year, but probably for only a week or two. I have been having some odd health issues over the years and all my blood work usually comes back ok. The only thing last year that showed up was zinc was low, but then i had an allergic reaction to the supplement. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

so i have been looking at what are the more unusual signs of gluten intolerance and what do you know, most of my random health things fall under here.

Here is the list from the above link


    Weight loss or weight gain
    Nutritional deficiencies due to malabsorption e.g. low iron levels
    Gastro-intestinal problems (bloating, pain, gas, constipation, diarrhea)
    Fat in the stools (due to poor digestion)
    Aching joints
    Depression
    Eczema
    Head aches
    Exhaustion
    Irritability and behavioural changes
    Infertility, irregular menstrual cycle and miscarriage
    Cramps, tingling and numbness
    Slow infant and child growth
    Decline in dental health

dental issues were not on MY list, but it was there and i have nothing but issues with my teeth and i take SUCH good care and eat SOOOO well. My big symptoms are inability to lose weight, fatigue, funky menstrual issues, IBS (alternating kind), muslce aches and pains, dizziness

So i think everything but dizziness was on there, but i think that is low blood pressure, which has always been an issue of mine. I am trying to increase my caffeine a little as well as my salt. That was the only things i could find on line to help. I don't want to have too much caffeine because then it will make my sleep worse!

With that set of symptoms, it really does seem like you are allergic to something.  Might be gluten, might be soy, might be something else.  If I were you, I would do an elimination diet or two just to see if I could identify the the problem food(s).

Gluten i do not eat a lot of but i know a little can make a difference. Soy is harder, i put edamames in my lunch every day! Lol. But will think of that next week to add. I have never had tummy issues but lately i have, many months now.

I gave up trying to figure it out.  It seems like any grains more than one serving of oats a day puts me over the edge.  Even the popcorn became troublesome.  I tried.  Maybe I'll try again later.

Soy is a big one. It causes all those issues and more for me.

I have gone off the deep end with Olive Oil cooking the last few months.  If that stuff turns out to actually be bad for you, I'll be dead in minutes.  Stick a fork in me, and expect it to come out smooth, olive-y, and really good at sauteeing mushrooms.

Sometimes.  Quaker is OK too, but that might be gluten free and simply not labeled as such.  I'd imagine they process a lot of oats and would have specific machines to do so.  Nothing else gluten free works and maybe the oats wouldn't if I ate more than one serving a day.  Haven't tried, ain't gonna.  Spent last week feeling like cr@p messing around with it.  24- 48 hours of taking the grains away again, eating plenty of protein, fats, fruits, and leafy greens the energy and overall feeling of well being come back soaring.  (still not eating dairy or legumes)

I had wanted to add in the grains because I wanted to stop losing weight and had started running again.  Plus I wanted to see how I'd feel.  Bad idea!  Started dropping weight again the moment I took the grains away, so I'm trying to make sure I eat enough, just by eating more of what is already on the menu.  Trying to remember to put a T of coconut oil on my oatmeal, etc.

Ha!  To Bob and the olive oil!  Pour it on baby!

Well, oats are gluten free, but generally are cross contaminated, so if you are avoiding gluten, buying ones labeled gluten free ensure there is no cross contamination from the processing procedure.

I have a whole laundry list of health complaints and from googling, soy is more of the digestive kinds, unless it is an allergic reaction like hives/itching. I will see if after a few weeks of no gluten how i feel and then decide about soy. I do not eat a ton of soy, but it is often part of my diet several times a week and soy sauce is a staple in my house :( I did buy tamari.

i made gluten free, low fat, vegan zucchini bread this morning and it was not terrible :D LOL!!!! I am going to make banana bread to take to my race this weekend.
