It always makes me LOL when I find silly nutrition things.  I like drinking the Starbucks VIA Refreshers from time to time and wanted to check the calorie count since I was in the mood to have one.  Apparently the calories per serving are 35...per 1/2 packet.  :eyeroll:  So the instructions show that you should pour a packet into 16 oz. of water BUT they don't want you to know that this is 70 calories.

Merigayle!!!    We watched "running on the sun" last night. It made me think of you.
 How many years have you done that race?! 

I mean... I know how awesome you are but seeing that movie really compounded it!!!
i have run it twice an crewed twice, my fave movie :D we quote it a lot out there.

i know he finished atleast once. I  will read it.
Chris moon is such an inspiration, and I loved jack dennes and his wife. I was surprised by how attached I got to all the runners.  Maybe because of you I felt more invested or something. Anyway it was a very good documentary. :)

It is a great movie albeit outdated (a lot of rule changes, etc) but my favorite badwater movie by far. And the woman who won the race, raced with her twin sister and a couple years ago her sister was competing in a tri and was hit by a car an died. :(

Today is day 3 or 4 of eating the "i" Diet breakfast (I've been following more loosely for the rest of the day) and I have to say, I really enjoy it.  I eat 1/3 - 1/2 cup of Bran Buds + the 2 tbls of granola (I found this Carrot Cake Love brand at Earth Fare) and coconut milk.  I'll also add that it is VERY cleansing.  I had plenty of fiber in my diet before but this takes it to a whole new level.

i went out to lunch with some friends, including MoS, and DD. I logged everything i ate. I sat there at the table and logged :D we went to the sushi buffet and i did my best to log everything. I did good. Only one roll (1 order of avocado roll), lots of salads, and mostly fruit for dessert. I had a couple bites of the dessert, but no soft serve or cookies :D

Update on the probiotics thing...  I had my annual Ob/Gyn appt yesterday, and I talked to her about my tummy issues, and my skepticism around a low-yeast diet, etc...  she asked if I'd tried probiotics, and suggested that I give it a go as well.  So off I went to Walgreens where I picked something up.  I took the first one this morning, so I'll let y'all know how it goes.  SG, MM, are you guys still taking them?

Update on the probiotics thing...  I had my annual Ob/Gyn appt yesterday, and I talked to her about my tummy issues, and my skepticism around a low-yeast diet, etc...  she asked if I'd tried probiotics, and suggested that I give it a go as well.  So off I went to Walgreens where I picked something up.  I took the first one this morning, so I'll let y'all know how it goes.  SG, MM, are you guys still taking them?

So my med insurance forced me to go to a two hour group GI class for people with IBS (a two hour class about poop!). I thought it would be a waste of time and it mostly was but I learned a few things. The presenters were a dietician, a GI doc, and a psychologist.

The dietician went on and on and on about upping fiber (which I already knew but I already eat a ton) and talked about avoiding foods one at a time as a test for 2 weeks (dairy and wheat being the two big ones). The GI doc talked about probiotics. She basically siad that everyone with IBS issues should try them for a full bottle and then continue with them on a much less frequent basis (once a week or so) if they appear to be working. If they don't appear to be working she suggested switching brands as they all include different strains. She did mention the yeast thing (which surprised me since I think it is mostly woo) but also suggested probiotics as the cure for it.  :d

I took probiotics for a full course and it did seem to help (TMI: my poops were finally regularly solid for the first time in maybe years)...but I ran out and need to get more as my symptoms are back. I only did a short 15 day course though which wasnt really long enough.

The GI doc also explained why the pain and bloating which I never really knew. Apparently if your poops are normal they trap the gas inside and eliminate in as part of the feces (which is why healthy poops float). People who have too hard or soft poops dont get the gas trapped and it stays in the upper portion of your intestine (because gas rises). Then your body tries to get it out by contracting and cramping (which doesn't work very well) so you end up in pain and bloated. When you sleep the gas can escape better because you are lying down which is why issues with pain are generally worse later in the day.

The psychologist indicated that depression, anxiety, and stress are highly linked and taught relaxation exercises. She and the GI doc also noted that anti depressents in very small doses can actually help with GI problems in people who dont have depression which I thought was interesting.

The GI doc also said that it is unlikely a Dr will ever be able to solve IBS issues and you kind of just have to play around with diet and suggestions until you come up with a personalized solution.  >:(

Mine is usually worst in the morning, but there are two reasons (1) I have sinus drainage and swallow a lot of air at night to clear it, which isn't (as) necessary when I am upright and (2) I tend to sleep curled up on my side which helps keep it trapped.  I usually lie flat on my back for a while in the morning before I get up for real and some will work through.  Regular exercise (in particular running) help a LOT.  I knew I was having trapped gas.

That's interesting, MM! I wouldn't have thought that fiber would be good for ibs because it can definitely loosen things up!

Very interesting info. 

I'm going to take the probiotics for a month at least, since that is how many pills I got.

I started taking probiotics a few weeks ago because I just kept feeling bloated and uncomfortable in the late afternoons.  And it seems to be working! 

What do you take and where do you get them?  Any special kind I should be on the look out for?
