Merigayle!!! We watched "running on the sun" last night. It made me think of you. How many years have you done that race?! I mean... I know how awesome you are but seeing that movie really compounded it!!!
It always makes me LOL when I find silly nutrition things. I like drinking the Starbucks VIA Refreshers from time to time and wanted to check the calorie count since I was in the mood to have one. Apparently the calories per serving are 35...per 1/2 packet. So the instructions show that you should pour a packet into 16 oz. of water BUT they don't want you to know that this is 70 calories.
i have run it twice an crewed twice, my fave movie we quote it a lot out there.
I really enjoyed it. The marines were awesome. Do you know if he ever tried again?
i know he finished atleast once. Chris moon was there this year, lisa smith was my running coach, dan jensen is there almost every year and has never seen the movie and jack dennes is there every year helping out. Go read kirk johnson's book To The Edge! I have probably seen that movie over 100 times!
i went out to lunch with some friends, including MoS, and DD. I logged everything i ate. I sat there at the table and logged we went to the sushi buffet and i did my best to log everything. I did good. Only one roll (1 order of avocado roll), lots of salads, and mostly fruit for dessert. I had a couple bites of the dessert, but no soft serve or cookies
I didn't log.. I just added quick added calories, but I didn't want to log.. At least I ran ten miles before hand.. thank god.. because I had two plates of food and two small plates of dessert!!!
Update on the probiotics thing... I had my annual Ob/Gyn appt yesterday, and I talked to her about my tummy issues, and my skepticism around a low-yeast diet, etc... she asked if I'd tried probiotics, and suggested that I give it a go as well. So off I went to Walgreens where I picked something up. I took the first one this morning, so I'll let y'all know how it goes. SG, MM, are you guys still taking them?
The GI doc also explained why the pain and bloating which I never really knew. Apparently if your poops are normal they trap the gas inside and eliminate in as part of the feces (which is why healthy poops float). People who have too hard or soft poops dont get the gas trapped and it stays in the upper portion of your intestine (because gas rises). Then your body tries to get it out by contracting and cramping (which doesn't work very well) so you end up in pain and bloated. When you sleep the gas can escape better because you are lying down which is why issues with pain are generally worse later in the day.
So my med insurance forced me to go to a two hour group GI class for people with IBS (a two hour class about poop!). I thought it would be a waste of time and it mostly was but I learned a few things. The presenters were a dietician, a GI doc, and a psychologist.The dietician went on and on and on about upping fiber (which I already knew but I already eat a ton) and talked about avoiding foods one at a time as a test for 2 weeks (dairy and wheat being the two big ones). The GI doc talked about probiotics. She basically siad that everyone with IBS issues should try them for a full bottle and then continue with them on a much less frequent basis (once a week or so) if they appear to be working. If they don't appear to be working she suggested switching brands as they all include different strains. She did mention the yeast thing (which surprised me since I think it is mostly woo) but also suggested probiotics as the cure for it. I took probiotics for a full course and it did seem to help (TMI: my poops were finally regularly solid for the first time in maybe years)...but I ran out and need to get more as my symptoms are back. She and the GI doc also noted that anti depressents in very small doses can actually help with GI problems in people who dont have depression which I thought was interesting.The GI doc also said that it is unlikely a Dr will ever be able to solve IBS issues and you kind of just have to play around with diet and suggestions until you come up with a personalized solution.
I started taking probiotics a few weeks ago because I just kept feeling bloated and uncomfortable in the late afternoons. And it seems to be working!
