Not me.

I'd rather be chubby than obsessed.  Not that you can't be both at the same time,
I should probably say more.

The original comment about the donut felt judgy to me.  Maybe it wasn't.

I would rather be her than the woman who eats a donut or a muffin every day for breakfast.

Oh the horror of being me! :D

I eat a scone or something equally decadant -donut, muffin, croissant - every morning plus a full-fat latte for breakfast now and I'm still skinny. My past-anorexic self would have a heart attack from surprise. So, you know what, it isn't a case of either or. You eat muffins and you're fat slob - you eat toast and 4 nuts and you're a healthy eater.

I know, shocker!

Having been in the depths of disordered eating. Let me tell you, I would not go back to being that person for all the money in the world.

And learning this lesson - that I can eat a variety of foods (even decadant ones) in varying quanties (because in disordered eating exact quantities with little/no variation become very very important), and enjoy these foods and not turn into some disfigured horrible nasty blob that people would judge to be weak willed and imperfect* which I so deeply feared turning into for all those years  -- was so refreshing! (*and that is my demons talking, not actually what I think about people who are overweight)

I can recognize disordered eating from a mile away. It is like looking into a mirror and seeing my past self reflected back at me. I have been known to stare when I see it in action, because I am so absorbed and curious about how I must have come across to other people.

Right or wrong, I would probably had the same thought as MM about the woman on the train. But I would have said "Please don't let me go back to that place." And when I was in that place, I felt I was doing everything RIGHT and everyone else were just unhealthy, lazy, misinformed people judging me because they were too undisciplined to do what I did. God I felt so superior, but also terrified and supremely self-loathing, and I was so delusional!  :nono:

Would I judge toast train lady as less than, no. But I would feel a surge of empathy and hope she wasn't feeling trapped and fearful like I was so many years ago.

I have learned the hard way that i always have to be mindful of what i am eating and mindful of my portions. The weight will surely creep back up. I wish I could eat whatever I want.

This week has been ok so far, yesterday a little snacking after work (it was 3pm) and came home with DD then she wanted to make cupcakes, which i did not eat, but i did lick the frosting spoon :D and really, it was tofu frosting, but somehow it did taste yummy! you put enough confectioners sugar in something and it is yummy :D

I never made my cashew cheese because i need cheese cloth. I guess the market sells that?

Is that really disordered eating?

Ideally- my way of eating calls for many tiny meals per day.

So, I might eat a slice of toast with 1tsp each of pb and jelly, and a small piece of fruit for breakfast.

2 hours later I might eat 6oz of yogurt and 8 almonds.

...and so on and so forth.

Of course, that is during the "lose" phase. But maintain is only a few calories more/day... so a lot seems to stay the same.

Is it disordered eating to eat the same bland thing every morning for years? Maybe not but it sure as heck would be my definition of hell. I see this woman almost every morning. Not to mention that eating on the train is against the rules. ;)

I love toast.  It makes some sense to eat it dry on the train to avoid a mess or such.  Some people want something really light and bland when they first wake up.  I am not one of those people  :D  I would totally be peanut butter banana toast sandwich lady.  But I don't eat on the train.

Maybe it's disordered eating when it's controlling you, and not vice versa? You seem to have a good handle on your eating plan, RA, not "OMG, if I eat one crumb more than my precise allotted amount of toast and almonds then all is lost and I will be FAT! FAT I TELL YOU!!!!!"

Of course, in my vaguely disordered eating world, it's "Fuck, I ate an extra almond. Might as well have some chips, a Big Gulp, and a few king-sized candy bars to go with it. Fatass."

RA - I can't speak to whether california train lady is practicing disordered eating or not. But, I probably would have thought the same way as MM.
It does make that ED antennae stand up a bit. Only the lady knows for sure, of course.

My point was more that it isn't an EITHER/OR. Proposition.

A lady eating dry toast and nuts is not necessarily healthy and a lady eating a donut every morning is not necessarily unhealthy.

And, Meri, I'm 20lbs heavier than I was at my worst. So I do gain weight. :D  I've found a good balance at the moment.  :fingers: But it can be hard to avoid the really, really good ice cream they sell here.

And, I also really like toast. :)

That's how I would view it. Disordered eating is not WHAT you eat, per se. It is your whole relationship with food and how it defines and controls you.

Oh, I have had days like that. Less now than before, thankfully. And some days you just need a good junk food binge. :D
But when I would "fail" back then,  I would fail spectacularly. (And, of course, then hate myself for days and do all sorts of exercise to run it off, etc. ) I still don't understand how it got to that point.  :nono:

I, too, like toast. Dry toast, buttered toast, cinnamon sugar toast, any kind of toast, LOL!!! This is why I do not eat it :D

So cashew goat cheeze is "aging" in my cupboard overnight, but so far, first lick, OMFG!

SB, you've never seen one of my true binges. They were pretty spectacular. I don't think I ever crossed the line to a full-blown eating disorder, but I think I've come fairly close a few times.

Luckily I never really dealt with an eating disorder. Growing up with an obese mom with very unhealthy attitudes towards food gave me issues, but nothing too disordered. My issue until i went to WW in grad school, was portion control. I got fat on smoothies full of healthy things! Now, I struggle to maintain my weight and get back to my pre-pregnancy race weight (wish i really hope to see one day) but i think that is just part my body chemistry, genetics, and my body hating on me ;) just kidding on the last one. I do like sweets, but besides ice cream, was never one to binge. Ice cream is just so yummy and goes down so easily that it is too easy to eat the whole thing! LOL. DH though is a binge eater. He ate an entire box of cookies in a day the other day and an entire package of organic newman o's (oreos) in 2 days. He just does not eat enough during the day, so i just think he is too hungry at home.

My DH will go all day with very little food (he says he's too busy at work) and at 9pm at night when he's home from work he will eat a huge meal and then snacks. I keep trying to sell him on the idea of lots of smaller meals throughout the day. Some day hopefully it catches on.  :fingers:

All you people who claim to love dry toast. Do you mean toast or bread? Would you just have au untoasted plain slice of store bought wheat bread as a snack? I sure as hell wouldn't. Ick.

Yes. As long as the bread is fresh. I like plain, fresh bread from a new opened bag. And the bread here is really good.

I have issues with portion control....I can put the food away. DH likes to cook, and always makes more than enough so it is difficult to have appropriate portions. We go around and around about this and he finally understands and makes an effort to make smaller meals. And I make a better effort to make appropriate portions when there is more than enough.

I did my morning 30 minutes before work today.  I am feeling kind of funky today though. I hope I am not getting sick.
