I would take some NSAIDs and see how it feels tomorrow. Not much the dr can do besides maybe give you steroids.

It just worries me because it has been hurting for a full month and if it is still this sore I wonder if it is ever going to go away without some sort of intervention. I have been living off of large quantities of advil.

ah, gotcha. Have you done anything beside advil? Like massage or ice/heat therapy? I personally think steroids are only really effective in acute cases and you are borderline not really that acute anymore, acute is usually 1-6 weeks, imo. Local guided injection of steroids maybe. Physical therapy. Have you tried a TENS unit on it? not sure if either of you have one.

I would have to go to my primary care dr to get referred to physical therapy.

It is just so odd because I didn't even do anything to injure myself in the first place.

I've had that happen. I still have no idea what I did and it took probably 6 months to heal. Apparently soft tissues take forever to heal with me. I sprained my ankle about 10 months ago and it's just now starting to really get close to 100%.  :-\

Anything you do can do it, drying off funny after a shower, stepping wrong, sleeping odd, throwing your bag over your shoulder, etc. There is not always a definite causation. I would get a therapeutic massage in the time being.

Sorry about your back MM!

Yesterday was a bit of a disaster on the food front. We met friends for dinner at a cichette place (small plates italian style, or at least that's what they said at the place). It was pretty good! I had 2 glasses of wine and we shared a bunch of food. Then, fig tart and an espresso pudding thingy for dessert (also shared, but I probably ate most of it).

Totally my kind of meal, yum.

Saturday I have a birthday party to attend and Sunday I am volunteering all day at my town's craft/antiques/general fair, which will also involve lots of not so healthy food. Monday is going to be ugly!

Just resolve to do better next week, VP.  You'll be fine.
And MM, sorry your back hurts.

I think I was run over by a truck.  I've been battling allergy symptoms along with cough symptoms for weeks.  I don't think I've actually felt well since we returned from California.  I thought the Zyrtec was catching up with the allergies but today I've been worsening all day; my chest is heavy and it's getting hard to breath.  Off to the doctor tomorrow for me.  And I'm supposed to run a 5K on Saturday, my favorite one of the year.  :(

that's some dinner, meri!

Not you too, RA.  Boo.  DH had this in reverse and his turned into bronchitis.  I am probably going to the MD tomorrow.  And b/c my doctor is off on Fridays, means my good friend's DH will be doing the exam.  :o

Mine was allergies that triggered asthma, that turned into laryngitis, and a dry hacking cough that lasted for WEEKS. I'd finally get rid of it, go for a run, and it would start again. Honestly, no matter what I took, nothing was ever quite enough. After 2 months in a row of not sleeping and losing my voice for a week each month, I went for acupuncture.

I've pretty much been drug-free since August now. That shit is amazing.

Food was okay today - we made semi-healthy mac & cheese and a salad for dinner and fed the in-laws, too. Then FIL took Reid and DH outside to throw the football so MIL and I could clean up the goddamn kitchen. I should have taken off my shoes. I'm already pregnant (they don't know), might as well be barefoot in the kitchen, too.  :eyeroll:

Do you want the list of things my PT had me do when I hurt my back?  They really helped, and I still do them when it starts to get sore...

cheaper and easier than going to the PT :D

I ran, felt good, only good run this week  :eyeroll: I must be hormonal still. I cried during Masterchef (finale) and a Verizon commercial. WTF?

Ok...

She had me stand against a wall, and then arch my back in and out, trying to touch it flat against the wall, then back.

Cat/cow or whatever it's called in yoga, where you are on your hands and knees, and arch your back up and down.

Cobra in yoga, where you lay on your stomach, put your hands beneath your shoulders, then push your upper body up.  Do this, then go back into child's pose.

Stretch your hamstrings (this seems connected to back pain for many people).  Stand, feet about shoulder width apart, then let your upper body hang, supporting your weight with your hands/arms, getting a good stretch in your hamstrings.

The other thing they had me do was because I'd kind of started walking with my hips all skewed, like holding one higher than the other.  They would have me stand, and purposefully push that hip back to level.  I would do it a lot.  Stand up, do it, stretch a bit, go back to work.  Repeat a lot.  They also had me lay on my back, with my legs bent, and put a small ball of some sort underneath my lower back area, and do some self massage to break up the inflamation (or something).

Also, if you have a foam roller, you can lay on it longways.  Like with it parallel to your spine, hands out in a T shape.  It helps stretch.  My PT also had me use it on my hamstrings.  She also had me use the big exercise ball to really stretch, arching my back over it, like you were doing a back bend.

When I first started doing this stuff, it was very gently, because it hurt.  But I kept at it, and lo and behold, it got better.

Those are great tips Courtney.... thanks for posting.

This week at work has been exhausting.   I must still be hormonal too because pretty much everything has annoyed the shit out of me.  I desperately need a run.   I've not ran all week and it is making me frustrated.  I'm so glad for the weekend.

I also inhaled a large pizza with DH last night.  Oops.

Have any of you seen the commercial about the  layaway giveaway gasp?  I think it is for Kmart.  It has a lady on it gasping.  Well every single time it comes on the kids freak out and yell MOMMY!!  They think it is me.   It is funny at how they react to it.

How funny!  I guess I could see that.

I had a miserable night: woke up every hour with my whole body hurting, especially head in sinus area and my back.  When it came time to wake up this morning and go to the race I couldn't catch my breath and head was killing me.  I managed to down some advils, mucinex and went back to bed for two hours and my fever broke.  But I am super bummed that I missed the fun race.  :(

I'm glad your fever broke, but that's a bummer about the race, diablita. :(

I'm trying to figure out how to get my in-laws out of my house so I can get dressed for my dinner date with DH. Hmmmmm.
