oh i know, i am just saying, sometimes it is not in your control no matter how hard you try, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Officially you cannot continue ww during pregnancy but that doesn't mean you cannot follow a modified points plan.

Yeah, I know I can't totally control it, but I can at least make the best possible choices and *try.* I mean, if I gain because of fluid, well... fine. I'll be curious this time, actually. Last time I was pregnant during the 2nd hottest summer on record - at the time it was the hottest - so I'm positive that had a lot to do with the fluid gains.

MM, I know I can't officially continue, but do you know if I switched to Maintenance, would it let me switch back later? I only do online, so I'm wondering if that would work.

Mine was a LOT of fluid. Seriously, I puffed up like a blowfish while pregnant, and the nurse was always nervous when she saw my ankles. But after Reid was born, I dropped 20 pounds in like a week.

Or ask your MD to refer you to a Registered Dietician?

In general, MDs receive woefully little training in nutrition so what they know is often dependent on how much they've read up on their own.   :nono:

This.  And yet, nobody listens to the dietitian if they have suggestions the doctor didn't recommend!  >:(

Debba, I'm not completely familiar with WW, but I think that you could definitely still use the points system.  A good place to start would be to eat the number of points you get during maintenance and go with that during the first trimester.  Keep an eye on what your weight is doing.  If you're losing weight on maintenance-level points, then take a look at how many extra points you'd get for breastfeeding and cut that in half.  Generally speaking, pregnancy requires an extra 300 calories per day and breastfeeding requires an extra 500 calories, so even though the math isn't exact that would give you a pretty good idea of how many points you'd need.

PM me if you have more specific questions, since counseling pregnant women about their eating is a big part of what I do all day.  And because I don't think I said it in the other thread, congrats and hooray!

Generally speaking, pregnancy requires an extra 300 calories per day

This site claims 200 extra calories in the last trimester...  That's a big difference from 300 every day over the course of a pregnancy.

http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/nutrition/caloriesadayexpert/

and this site claims a bit higher:

http://www.eatright.org/Public/content.aspx?id=10933#.UFMQZI6UxUQ

but both agree on the first trimester without increased calorie intake.

Thanks for the congrats, caito and Nadra!!

And Nadra, the 300 a day is what I'd heard, too, but isn't that for someone already at a healthy weight? I'm not, that's the thing - I'm fat. To be blunt, based on BMI, I'm obese. I'm otherwise in good health, though, and Reid's pregnancy went really well, but I'd still like to at least *try* to do better this time.

It's definitely something I'll talk to the midwives about (if they accept me), or my doctor if I go back there.

I think the extra 300-400 cals only translates to 3 or 4 more points, and then you have the weekly allowance and any activity points (a big fat ZERO so far!). So if I spread all that out over the week, it would be... um.... 40 or so points? So far this week, I've been adding an extra glass of milk with my prenatal (because it's disgusting), and a bit more food at dinner if I'm hungry. Right now, I'm down a bit from last week's weigh-in, but have held pretty steady over the last few days.

I'll have to see if the plan will let me switch to maintenance.

I think the consensus is that a point is now about 40 calories on WW...  It used to be like 50-75, but with the new system it went down.  At least that is what I've read.

If you are trying to maintain I'd add on like 5 points to your regular amount for a couple weeks, and see how that goes.  Of course, in theory, you should do that with good, wholesome foods, not ice cream.  :D  But we all know what I'd end up choosing!

So...  I saw some pics of me in Napa, and me no likey.  It's like, I like headshots, because I don't mind how my face looks.  But there is one where I'm sitting, and apparently that is not flattering.  GAH.

Oooh, that's good to know, Courtney - thanks! 5 points seems reasonable. I'll see what that gets me.

arm are probably the hardest area to fix, imo, after the lower belly! LOL.

just took a 45 minute nap with DD and she is still asleep and she slept the whole way home. She is totally feeling fine and came to work with me and had wayyyyyyyy too much fun :D for some reason, about half my patients came with their spouses today and she had lots of people to entertain :D And one patient, speaking of a discussion from earlier in the week, had uterine cancer and chemo and DD said she was a man, not a woman, because she had little hair, OMG.  :panic:

Today I'm wearing this purple cape/poncho/thing and it's great because it hides all my "problem" areas.  :D

Hee! Thanks, tricia! The semi-big announcement was in the procreative thread, and it wasn't really much of an announcement, LOL.

Take Nadra up on her offer, debba!

I am starving today.  I just want to eat and eat and never stop.  My period's over so I can't use the hormonal excuse.

Shut up mini. Just because google changed it, doesn't mean in elementary school, we got it wrong.

She's an awful, awful human being.
