well it is not "hers" perse, and she is not going to eat a whole box of cookies, but to eat them all????????? Well, there were two little ones left in the box, but sheesh. I do not label stuff, but there should be some common sense, no? I got in a fight with him on the phone today and was like, you live with two other people, it is not a free for all, please just ask, common courtesy. He gets very defensive about everything then usually is like, oh you were right.  :eyeroll:

You did not overreact.  His behavior does not sound like an adult or parent's behavior.  it sounds like a child's.  I only had to label the food that came into my home when I was living w/ 3 roommates in college and even then, only because one of them was an asshole.

yep, feels like a bad roommate issue! LOL. i remember labeling food in the apt fridge :D He definitely has spoiled brat only child syndrome, so of course i blame my MIL for that as well :D I also think he has an uncontrollable sweet tooth sometimes and when he binges, he just looks for anything sweet and that is always DD's stuff, cause i don't buy yummies for me, LOL.

1!

No an ass, an only child who was never made to share anything ever with anyone.

Which gives him a one-time pass. Maybe. As this is an ongoing issue, it has long ago crossed, the "@ss" line. Sorry. The new rule should be that he doesn't eat any sweets he didn't bring into the house, without asking you what your plans were first.

that's one of the most disgusting snacks I've ever heard of, onawhim.  Pretty sure I'm going to think of that food combo whenever I'm having a snack-craving moment.  :)

You guys don't mind if I hide my non-food related ruminations in here, do you?

I was really worried about DD transitioning from her itty bitty private school (and very sheltered suburban public schools before that) to a hard-core, urban high school. The seattle high schools are good, mind you, but they do come with all of the challenges of an urban school. I'm worried that our situation makes her more vulnerable to negative influence than she might otherwise be, you know?

But, although she could have gone to her private school one last year, I didn't think it was feasible for me either financially or logistically (about 25 miles from my new place). Well, the school has decided that having her there is mutually beneficial and has offered her a full scholarship. It also works out for her teacher to drive her to/from (she'll ride the bus down town with me and her teacher will pick her up from my building).

What. a. relief.

I think I'm going to try and apply for scholarships for her at some other local private schools. The cycle for next year starts in october. I don't know if I can make it happen for her, and I know there are probably some major downsides to sheltering her. But, I need at least an illusion of safety to keep my sanity in order right now.

RA, I think it's fabulous that you're doing this for her. It's not like you keep her in a bubble at home, either, so I wouldn't worry too much. I might ask the schools how they help students with the transition to college in a few years - do they remove supports slowly, teach the kids how to advocate for themselves, etc.? Basically - is there a plan?

Meri, no, you're not overreacting. DH is being a jerk. And he needs to go get her some more cookies - SPECIFICALLY A BLUE CUPCAKE ONE - you don't need to be running all over hell's half-acre to fix his screw up.

I've spent all morning sleeping, and I'm about to go lay down again. My throat is all scratchy and hurting. :( I'd give anything for some ice cream, but I'm too worn out to go get any. I guess that's the silver lining here - the scale is down a bit.

RA tht is great about the school.

I found some fancy cookies where i picked up my lunch salad and called DH to make sure he did not also go and he is pissed at me! Ugh! I am so cranky right now, and you know what? She may have forgotten all about the cookie. No cupcake cookie but two awesome ones.

Meri, it often sounds like you are the only adult in your family, I don't know how you do it.

And yay for the scholarship, RA!

Debba, feel better!

I feel good about bringing in leftovers for dinner-at-work today. On Thursdays when I work until 8pm it is often hard not to resort to Dairy Queen around 5:30 or so.

yes, yes it does feel like that often  :eyeroll: my DH is 11 years older than me, but when I met him i would have sworn he was my age (he also looks young) though he has not aged much, some, but not much. I really blame my MIL :D He pretty much raised himself.

Meri, you are a better woman than I am...  that shit would piss me off!

I made a greek quinoa salad and brought it in to share with my boss.  It's ok, but the texture is weird.  I'm not sure I can eat more of it.

That would annoy me, Meri. :( Sorry you have to deal with that. Maybe if HIS stuff gets eaten then maybe he'll start to show a little compassion and respect for others' sweet stuff.

Courtney.. what's in your greek quinoa salad? What did you not like about the texture?  Maybe you just need to tweak the recipe.

Gah. I am so far off track I can hardly stand it.  I am slowly gaining gaining gaining. I lost my early to rise mojo to go to the gym and I am just kind of stagnating.

Kick my ass please.

Please!?

I'm in the same boat, Mouse. I'll have to see how I feel after the weekend - hopefully I can get some rest - and then just do my best to get back on track on Monday.

I think the summer heat is beating all of us.
Mouse, maybe just get out and do something you really enjoy this weekend. How's the SUP going?  That has to count for something.
Debba, once you get over this crud just try at least to get in some walks.  It would probably help you feel better if you take it slow.  A hot epsom salt bath would do wonders I bet.
Meri, Glad she was OK with the swap.  Hopefully it won't happen again.

I had to force myself to exercise today instead of nap.  Actually, I did nap after my push ups and a tough trail run...really, only 1.75 miles but it was at 2:30pm and stupidly hot.  The kids, DH and I also did a trail walk this morning...45 minutes.

Thank FSM the kids napped today.  It's been almost a full week of no naps.

I managed my exercise goal, wine drinking goal, and water drinking goal.  Dinner was pathetic though.  I'll probably get the bed time goal, too....at least before midnight.

MG, I am not a parent, but if this happens regularly, have you thought of:

1.  making portion bags/tupperware of entire cookie boxes?
2.  setting aside/hiding the portions your daughter was promised?

and letting everybody in the family know?

I do not think that bitching about it will help, and coming up with a solution is a more constructive way of approaching the problem and avoiding it in the future.  Maybe your daughter could help you make the portions.

I doubt anyone willfully eats an entire box of cookies.  Making the container smaller may "help" DH control the size of his portion, too.

Yes, I need to separate things that are special to her, I thought this was self explanatory. And I know many people here struggle with binges and can understand his actions and since he is so skinny, he does not think there is anything wrong with the binges. It's been discussed and I hope it does not happen again.

And i ate no bread yesterday, whew. I was eating it like it was going out of style!
