Gag.

Growing up, my mom would sauté it to death, and then served it with bacon, ketchup, and mashed taters.

Ruined forever was any desire to eat liver.

Unless it was the incredible chopped liver made by my little Jewish grandmother. Yum!

Er- I was thinking more along the lines of sauteed to medium rare. I saw a red wine sauce on epicurious that looks tasty, make it with arborio rice and some crisp greens and serve with a Sauvinon Blanc.

Think French, Not deli.

I have no good recipes for liver.  I love chicken and turkey liver so much I just boil it and eat it straight with a touch of salt.  Mmmmm.

I like liverwurst, but I'd rather buy it than make it.

I LOVELOVE pate, but still, I'd rather buy it than make it.

Sorry that I can't add to the recipe situation, I just felt this thread needed a little liver lovin'.

Isn't that a high cholesterol "food"?

My father used to fry liver and onions.  Nobody else in the family would eat them and the kitchen would stink for days.

When my mom finally told me (i was an adult when i found out) about schmaltz and gribenes in gramma's chopped liver recipe, I kind of choked back the  :yikes:

No wonder my mom struggles with through-the-roof LDL.

But we loved the stuff...every time we visited Chicago, gramma would prepare her high-fat feasts. ;)

Nobody in the family has been able to replicate the g'hqt l'b'r [sp?] recipe ( I don't even try ) because gramma did it all from memory. Never wrote anything down.

That's ok. I do.

I understand there's a lot of strange and weird foods out there: Ice cream, liver, rice, cauliflower, bananas.

Some people like eating new things. Other people don't.

Sorry- I didn't mean to sound glib in the last post- my point is- most people have a food or foods they don't like or don't eat.

I've been known to try anything once.

Hmm... You want a list?
Live shrimp
Alligator
Crickets
Horse steak
Horse tartar
I missed the chance to try dog when I was in china, but I did eat meat at some dodgy places, so it might very well have been pooch.

Considering that, I'd say Liver is pretty tame- but like i said- some people just aren't interested in trying new things. That's not me.

pate is the only way you can get me to eat liver

and before you roll your eyes or spout on about how adventurous you are, I have tried to like liver... I have tried calf's liver, chicken liver, pork liver, duck liver... I've tried it fried, chopped up in stuffing, sauteed and glazed, braised and grilled...  :vomit:

I do not like it Sam-I-Am.

I actually do not eat ice cream ever.

That's ironic, given your user name.
