That's awesome, MG! I found that college was a much better learning environment than high school for me, as well. I did something similar- didn't finish high school and went straight to college. I didn't need to get my GED, just pass basica skills evals for my tuition assistance.

Good for you for doing morning runs. I like the idea of morning weekday runs but...yeah...never happens!

so i am really frustrated that the scale won't budge. I am ODing on cabbage and soup and everything healthy. I am not perfect diet wise, but pretty damn close. I am considering trying to eliminate all grains and see if that has an effect, if you think it may? (the collective you). I do eat brown rice, oatmeal and quinoa, probably 1-2 servings a day, closer to one, generally at bfast. I really do not know what else to do beside starve myself. (which i do not want to do.)

You say this constantly that you are nearly starving yourself. Have you actually tracked all your calories religiously over a period of time? I mean everything, even taking bites of your kids plate etc. I find that I can fool myself VERY easily in terms of the number of calories I am consuming and it is only when I really track it that I lose weight consistently. But that means tracking EVERYTHING. :)

If you place oatmeal in a glass of water, it absorbs the water.  If you put a piece of salmon or tempeh in water, it does not absorb as much water.  The same happens when it's in your body.

Whenever I visit my family for a few weeks, I eat less grains and more protein, basically in the form of salmon. I lose weight in pounds. When I come back, I get back to what I weighed before I left, because I get back into the grains.  I do not eat more overall calories here.  Grains, however, absorb water, whereas the protein does not.  I assume I just retain less water at my family's place.

I have not tracked recently in the past few weeks, but I can try it again, though when I track, i really do not see any changes with my weightloss. And that is every bite. I generally find I will lose weight if i go under 1000 cals/day. If i am training A LOT, i can get away with a little more but that SUCKS.

I guess I am technically at a healthy weight, but for me, I feel really fat, I am 10 pounds above my prepregnancy weight and almost 20 pounds above my racing weight, and i was NOT underweight then.

Is it not so much about the weight, but leanness or muscle tone? Fitness? I don't necessarily weigh less now than I did when I got married and was as thin as I've ever been...but I feel as if I do, because I am much more fit and toned. Sometimes there is more to it than the number of pounds.

definitely not muscle! I feel like jello, LOL. I have been trying to do some weights, but when i say weights i mean 8 & 5lbs :D

If you are at a healthy weight and want to change your body, you need to lift heavy (heavier) weights.  Building muscle feels incredible.

Ok, I can't explain the science of it, but my understanding is that it goes deeper than this. That the glycogen (maybe?) actually holds onto water and when we eat less carbs there is less glycogen in our bodies which translates into less water... i.e. water weight. But... I don't think I'm explaining it exactly correctly.

i do not want to be this weight but 10-20 lbs lighter a i was prepregnancy. There is a huge weight range for healthy weight at my height and i am well in that range but on the upper side. I really do notwant to sy what i weigh but it is tooooo high or racing and almost four years after having DD i really want to get more competitive at my races but patience is wearing thin.

Have you thought about talking with a nutritionist? It seems like MoS had a great experience in working with one and she got good results. Maybe that would help sort out what has you stuck at that weight, and what can prepare you for more training.

I have in the past and the only one that helped cost $350 for the first visit and $250 for the follow ups :( The other ones suck. My friend who is an RD has no advice for me except she is convinced i have an undiagnosed thyroid issue but no tests have shown anything, so what can i really do about it?

meri- what about just trying the meds. Some people have had that work for them, even if their thyroid #'s are within scope. My understandign with thyroid is that it could be "low for you" but not "low for the average", if that makes sense.
