Ok, so I'm considering joining a new gym. They do a lot of classes I like and are really reasonable- $12/drop in or $60/month. It's about 3 miles from my house so I'm kind of thinking run there, do the class... and work up to running home. Which probabyl means bussing home at least at first. Am I nuts? Parking is kind of a nightmare there- you have to park a few blocks away anyway.

I don't think that's totally nuts, as long as the bus part works and it's not a skeevy area or you'd be running roads that would be difficult to cross or something. I think it's a great idea, actually. I could, in theory, walk to our gym, but I'd probably get run over.

No, it's actually a fairly pleasant run, though it's up hill most of the way there. The bus route is pretty simple on well-served lines- though I do have to switch about halfway through. I could always ride the one bus for part of the way home and run the rest of the way (all a nice gentle slope downhill). Maybe I'll give it a try tonight.

How about biking?  I do not think it is crazy.  I run to the pool and walk to yoga.

Good luck! I'd love to walk to the gym, but the threat of getting run over is too real - I'd have to cross an extremely busy 6-lane road.

That's a great idea. I should pick up my bike. I've thought about biking to work. It's an easy enough to commute (but then there is the being stinky at work all day problem...)

Sled hill training sounds pretty good. Also sounds like another reason for me to be grateful that I live in Texas.

we were not even supposed to get this!!! we were supposed to get FLURRIES and rain. I guess it rained at my office, but i am 20 miles west and probably 5 degrees cooler. We probably got 5 inches!!! Totally unexpected. They called DD's school cancelled after we left this morning, because it went from rain to snow to really dangerous really quickly. I got there to an empty parking lot  :grr: but my friend lives inbetween school and our house, so we went there and played for 3 hours!

RA, that gym sounds great.  You should totally try it.  I just found out there's a good crossfit gym near my house where I could work out on lunch break but I'm so prone to overuse injuries that I'm worried I'll kill myself there.

So I just registered for this phenomenal race in January run on one of the most beautiful courses in the country.  They have an 8K, 30K and 50K.  I registered for the 8K yesterday.  And today the JCC got in touch to tell me that they nominated me for the Board of Directors, want me on the board, and the first meeting is that same day later in the afternoon.  I suppose I could still go run the race (it's like 90 minutes away) and then come back and go to the meeting.  But we were planning on getting a cabin near the course for the weekend and now that won't work.  oh well.

Here are a couple of pics:
It's like fingers of land surrounded by Lake Fontana.

And the views look kind of like this.  Western NC is called "The Land of Sky" and this is why.  It's often mistier:

And since I'm feeling chatty: tomorrow is my excision.  Turns out the melanoma is not in-situ, it's Stage 1 invasive.  So I'm having the excision done tomorrow and then my friend (a plastic surgeon) will do a skin graft next Tuesday to close it up provided the pathology shows clean margins.  I could use a bit of vibing.

I'm doing the Alamo 13.1. on March 24th. It's the second year and it looks like a smallish race. I looked at the times and I wouldn't be DFL, so that's plus. Seems like a nice chunk of walkers will be behind me, hopefully.

I think if I had not gone to see friends running the Rock N Roll, I might not have given it a second thought. But seeing all the runners made me itchy to get out there again. I've been run/walking the last few weeks to get back into the swing of things. So I have a few more weeks of that before I start my full-on training.  :runner:

I gained about 5 pounds over the last week. Not fun. :( Most likely just salt bloat. But still!
