well, I have no advice. the sudafed did not really help me, but made me REALLY thirsty. I maxed out how much Afrin I can take as well. I cannot believe i still feel super shitty almost 2 weeks later. Did you get steroids as well as the inhaler?

I was actually really productive during nap time and she is still napping! i did dishes and made dinner-- polenta lasagna, including the polenta from scratch. Excited to be able to do whatever we want when she wakes up (which should have been by now already.....) without having to worry about dinner :) just pop it in the oven.

I have my normal "Use This Before You Exercise" inhaler, and then when I went to the doctor on Friday she gave me another, temporary, inhaler with a steroid in it that I use twice a day. And yeah, I've been crazy thirsty, too. I guess if I wake up after 4:30, I should just stay awake, work out, and power through the day.

is it just a dry hacking cough or productive cough?

So...  gluten es no bueno!  Man, I can really tell when I get something with gluten in it on accident.  I had some jerky this morning, and it didn't occur to me to check for gluten until I'd already stuffed a bunch in my piehole.  Oh yeah, gluten (in the soy sauce flavoring).  WTF?  Now my tummy hurts.

I haven't been counting points now for a couple weeks, so I need to get back on that horse.  I have a trip to Napa Valley coming up over Labor Day, and then a wedding two months after that.  I'd like to be smaller/fitter.

I hope you feel better, Debba!!

Dry hacking. Not even remotely productive.

Courtney-- atleast you now the gluten is making a difference! tamari is gluten free soy sauce, but you probably knew that.

Debba- gotcha. That is how my cough has been, 80% of the time it is just this dry hacking. I was living on cough drops last week. Hopefully the steroid inhaler will work. Maybe if not, a nebulizer treatment?

The inhaler has been working, in that I can now walk across the parking lot without getting short of breath, which was happening last week. And I have nighttime cough syrup (I have two options, actually) that I've been taking, too, but I guess it's not lasting quite long enough? I don't know. It's just freaking annoying!!!

sounds really annoying, says me who has gone thru about 100 tissues today. and DD is still napping, almost 3 hours  :o i peeked in on her and she is still alive at least. she had a fever over the weekend, so i guess she needs the sleep, but boy is she gonna be pissed when she wakes up and does not have a lot of time between then and dinner. we were going to go swimming. oops.

Yikes! Good luck with that.

And yeah, it's *really* annoying. I don't like waking up in the mornings feeling disoriented from the medicine, but until this resolves, it's the only way to stop the cough. I have two cough syrup options - one is basically codeine with that guasefin or whatever it's called, and the other one is essentially liquid lortab.

take both and call it a night :D ok, it is 5:05, i may try to wake her, but i am scared. I may just wait for DH to get home at 5:30 to do it :D she can be a monster if you wake her up prematurely. Whenever i pick her up at school after nap time (Wed and Fri) they are like, oh let me go wake her and get her for you, i am like NOooooooo  :panic: :panic: :panic:

LMAO! I wish. I had book club at the house on Saturday and between the 6 of us, we went through 8 bottles of wine - basically, we were each responsible for a little over a bottle of wine, give or take. Even with all that, I *still* had to take cough syrup so I could sleep. I'm kind of amazed I woke up yesterday.

Yeah, I'm feeling better during the day, for sure. It's the random and unexpected hacking cough at night that's killing me. At least Reid didn't wake up last night.

Debba.. are you perhaps allergic to something in your room? Or is it when you lie down?

Have you tried a netipot to get the crap out of your sinuses? That sometimes works for me. Not all the time, though. I think my sinuses are shaped weird and the liquid still comes out even after I've supposedly blown it all out. gross.

Netipot works pretty good for me. I also got rid of down pillows, which was tragic because I love my down pillows.

I am so woefully off track I don't know where to begin. So back to basics for me......

Do you have an air purifier in your bedroom? Ours has helped me a lot and it was only about $100!

It's definitely worse when I lay down, which is pretty typical for cough-variant asthma, which is what I think I have. I have tried a neti pot with mixed results, but good enough that I do keep trying it. I'm also really bad about remembering that it's under my sink. :) No air purifier, but that's not a bad idea.

This particular episode can all be traced back to the Van Halen concert and the pot smokers behind us.

I'm sorry you're still dealing with this, though it does sound like it's getting better.  Could you be dehydrated when you go to bed and the combo of needing more liquids and the meds leaves you too dry at 4ish?  That's all I got.  Hopefully you continue to improve.
