*high five*!  Cinnamon is gross anyway. No reason to waste hard earned calories on that!! :D
cinnamon soaked in butter in a flaky warm pastry. actually, to be honest, it looked dried out and tough. I think DD was wise to pass on it.

and yeah, food is addictive. i think there is just so much sugar in everything now (even savory foods) so much variety, that evolutionarily, our bodies just want more and more. you know, to prepare for the famine  :eyeroll: i will be well prepared.

I do take the Zyrtec at night - I just waited too long last night, so the one from Saturday night had already worn off before I took more yesterday.

Yeah, I know, it makes no sense. Basically, I need to take my Zyrtec right after dinner. And if I have to take cough syrup later, I just have to assume I won't be getting up to work out the next morning. :(

Caito - good luck with managing the marathon training & eating well.  I'm starting to think about races and how my food needs to be better the week or two before hand.  Or at least a few days before for short races.

MM & Debba - sorry you've got such horrible allergies!  DH has been up every night the last week, sometimes multiple times, sneezing, being stopped up, etc.  It keeps us both up.

Lanarkshire - glad you got *some* exercise in.  hehe.  Sounds like it is going well for you at the moment!

So, last night was a bit hectic.  After dropping my brother off, I came home and went to the chest freezer to find something for dinner.  That is when I discovered our freezer was not working - it had been unplugged accidently when DH was doing something with the power almost a week ago!!  The freezer was packed FULL of meat and other things.  It was still cool/cold to the touch so it wasn't rotten, but was at the latest point of being used safely.   The bottom had several inches of blood soaking through the packs of meat...ugh.

We were up until 1:00 am cooking 50 lbs of meat.  27 lbs of ground beef, 8 lbs of cube steak, and there is 8 lbs of stew meat in the crock pot... there were other packs of different cuts that we converted to jerky or stir fry.  I lost some made-ahead crock pot meals I did a couple weeks ago, along with some bread dough.   We cooked 20 egg rolls and ate what we could (6!)...hopefully they'll be OK another day or two.  I've invited family over to help me eat stew beef.    My house stinks of meat!

All that plus the kids Easter toys scattered everywhere and my house is a disaster area.  I've got another big bowl of meat to be bagged & frozen, and I need a nap.

That is not how I recommend doing once-a-month-cooking!

Bolloxd, OMG!!! I'd have lost it if I'd been up all night cooking. SO glad you caught it now rather than after things started to spoil, though. That would have been horrible.

omg! that is horrible! DH unplugged our fridge down in the basement once by accident but all that was in there was some ice cream and veggie burgers.

and i was going to say something about allergies! i take singulair in the morning and flonase and claritin at night. kinda spreads it out :D This is my severe allergy season protocol, otherwise, 1 claritin at night.

or you can take a benedryl at night and your allergy med in the morning. i take the singulair in the AM because a side effect is sleeplessness and when i was taking it at night i was having a hard time sleeping, but it could have been coincidence.

i made this for dinner, it was tasty! http://ohsheglows.com/2011/08/04/high-protein-oil-free-basil-pesto/

the shirataki noodles were not, i tossed them and had about 1/4 portion of pasta and just ate the rest on a spoon. DD liked it too. i will have to find something creative to do wtih what was leftover.

In my opinion shiratake noodles suck for italian food but are decent for asian food...as long as you rinse the crap out of them. But I cannot eat them anymore anyway since they are soy.

I agree. MM, I got some kep noodles at my healthfood store that are similar to shirataki but not made from soy. http://kelpnoodles.com/index.html

I need to make orzo salad! Possibly for next week's lunches.  :!:  What did you put in it? Was it hot or cold? I used to do a hot orzo dish with veggie broth, zucchini, carrots, onions and possibly some other veg. + adding some parm at the end (kind of like an orzo risotto). I got the original recipe from Rachael Ray and adapted it. Oh yeah, it had fresh parsley in it added at the end. Mmmmmm.

You cook the orzo, then rinse it and drain. While it's cooking, rinse/drain a can of black beans, a cup (or more) of thawed frozen corn, and chop up some green onions and some cherry tomatoes. Mix all that together and add the cooked orzo. Mix up 1/4 cup buttermilk, 2 tablespoons light sour cream, 2 tablespoons canola mayo, 3 tablespoons lime juice, 3 tablespoons cilantro, 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper and 1/4 tsp. ground red pepper. Pour that over the orzo mixture and stir. Top it with avocado.

And actually, don't quote me on those measurements - here's the actual recipe: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/orzo-salad-with-spicy-dressing-50400000112006/

Ah, I forgot the garlic. That's why I said not to quote me. :)

I still love my fitbit.. I really need to get serious about the logging the food though and using the syncing feature with my fitness pal.. It was hard over the weekend with various things, but I am back on track now.

I am averaging a little over 12,000 steps a day and let me tell you, that takes work!  On my regular workout days, say run 4-6 miles, I still need to get in quite a bit more movement to be there.. I'd love to be able to average 15,000 a day.. but we'll see..

On Sat I ran 8.6 and I think that came out to about 14k steps.. so you really have to do more than just your work out if it's only 40-60 minutes..

Today it was too windy at work to walk at lunch.. They are constructing a highway and a new building and there was crap flying all through the air, so we ran stairs inside and walked the long hallway.. crazy, but I needed the extra 4000 steps that got me. Then I went and did the elliptical at the gym and walked a bit..

Today I am so sore!  My daughter and I ran 4 miles of hills yesterday and then went to a TRX class down the street.. And score.. the person who was running the class forgot the correct keys and had to go back and get them and so we started 15 minutes late so she didn't charge us!  I am sore all over and I have done TRX before.. My daughter never has and she is more sore than I am I think.. but man, my abs are the most sore they have ever been.. I guess that's a good thing right?

Today was ok foodwise. I was feeling uninspired and had a lot of strawberries that needed to get used, like yesterday... so dinner was a big smoothie (nf fage, a frozen banana, strawberries, spirulina, and spinach). I need to go make soup but reeaaallly don't feel like it! Very tired today!

Thanks! Bookmarked. I might try subbing greek yogurt for the mayo though (maybe?)

Why can you not weight yourself?  It seems to me that you could still measure the ups and downs from day to day.

Can't stand on the scale unassisted, and the cast weighs a ton.  I can't get anything close to an accurate weight, even from a new baseline.

Staying pretty well on target.  Eating plenty of yogurt for extra calcium.  Getting around on crutches provides some exercise - I'm trying to drink a lot of water so I have to get up often to use the bathroom.

Got briefly foiled this morning: after getting up to go to the bathroom, I slipped trying to get back into bed.  Landed on the floor, luckily on my well-padded butt.  Felt faint at first, partially because DH wasn't home from work yet, and wouldn't be home for at least 45 minutes.  But I managed to scoot to the top of the stairs and use the rail and a crutch to get back up.  That was a mini workout!

Shut up mini. Just because google changed it, doesn't mean in elementary school, we got it wrong.

Mini, I'm glad you were ok when you fell!  Yipes.  You need a houseboy to assist you.  A hot one.  :D

Meri, I hadn't thought about outdoor furniture from Ikea...  our table blew over this weekend and broke, badly.  So I'll have to look at Ikea!
