Not one. freaking. candy.  >:( :( >:(

Playing with the electronic shopping cart was great!  I'll think of some excuse to go back to the store later this week so I can play some more.

I'm doing pretty good controlling portions, but it still annoys me that I can't get much exercise.   I think I just have to take a one day at a time do the best I can approach.  It annoys the heck out of me that I can't really weigh myself until the cast's off.

Welcome Cozy!

Welcome cozy!

Food has been OK, I guess.  A few pieces of candy but not much...the birthdays over the weekend was tough.  Blueberry pancakes this morning, a 5.3 mile run, push-ups & crunches all done.  This evening's meal is going to be hard, since I'm giving my brother a lift to his house since he wrecked his car yesterday and is at my parents.  Luckily he's OK...he fell asleep while driving.  3rd shift & a newborn has been hard on him!

The kids have had a great Easter...they loved their baskets with little toys.  They had their first creme egg and seem to be addicted, but I've hidden them now.  We usually go to my Granny's for lunch but she has pneumonia so it has been delayed for a few weeks until she's better.  At least it spreads out the overindulging.

I haven't had any candy yet, but good LORD, we ate horribly last night and this morning. Also, seeing my sister was a scary, scary wake-up call for me - what will happen if I don't get my ass in gear.

I'm getting up in the morning.

Why can you not weight yourself?  It seems to me that you could still measure the ups and downs from day to day.

Hmmm I need to find out what my BMI and ideal weight is.

Today we had a breakfast casserole for breakfast which I had a little bit of with coffee and for Easter late lunch/early dinner ham, deviled eggs, baked beans, etc.  I had small portions and think I did OK.  I'm sure I forgot to record some of what I ate, but overall, I think I'm OK.  The kids have tons of candy of course, but I'm not too tempted by it, thank goodness.

Bolloxd, thank goodness your brother is OK.  Lack of sleep is rough.

Mini, hope you heal quickly.  I think you are on such a good track that you will be OK while you are getting better.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I thought Dr Roberts summed all of this up pretty simply/nicely and backed up with science in the I-diet. You eat because the food is there and because your brain registers it as more "tasty" than salad. You are hungry again shortly after eating the food because of the blood sugar crash that follows eating a diet devoid in fiber. Period, end of story. I don't really believe there is anything more sinister than that going on. IMO, a lot of these movies are just as bad as the diet industry they love to hate. A lot of pseudo science without a lot of actional data. By contrast, Dr. Roberts lays out the reasons we behave the way we do and common sense ways to change the way we eat accordingly.

Ok, so I know the thread is probably totally somewhere else right now, but this is as far as I am in catching up from last week.... I must disagree with this. My diet is FULL of fiber. FULL. I love salad. It is one of my favorite things to eat! I eat mostly whole foods and I still could eat way more than I do when I'm watching cals. I find I stop naturally around 2000 cals if I don't consciously count. (Higher than my daily needs, I think.) Just wanted to comment here before I forgot my thoughts!

So I started the Turbo Fire dvds today and it was fun but tough! Have another workout in the AM before the kiddos get up; food today was decent but will be happy to be back at work and in my routine tomorrow :)

Oof. So, I got knocked over by allergies this weekend. Switched my OTC meds to Zyrtec, since it's supposed to be better for mold. I guess it's better? Not sure - I think I waited too long to make the switch. I'm totally stuffed up and have lost my voice! Last night I was coughing so hard I had to take the high-powered cough syrup, so I was totally drugged up when the alarm went off this morning. Dammit.

Plan for today: eat well. Take medicine sooner. Get to sleep earlier, which won't be an issue if I'm taking my meds sooner. Sleep better.

I know how you feel. I had two miserable runs in a row this weekend because I couldn't breathe. I spent the time coughing and gagging and then Antag told me I should just suck it up...as if mentally wanting to breathe will magically help. I was struggling so hard that my chest hurt from all the effort afterwards.

I was doing okay until the mold shot through the roof last week. Now, though,  :nono: I actually woke up coughing last night. That was fun. When I couldn't cough it out, I had to get up and take the Hydromet. Blergh.

Geesh, debba! Feel better. I am SO thankful that I don't have that kind of reaction to allergens anymore. Mainly just itchy eyes, runny nose... I went through a period of back to back sinus infections for like a year and a half. The allegra has solved it for me. Hope the meds kick in earlier tonight for you!

Well, after a week of fun, food and no fitness (well, not the individual kind at least...  :groucho:) I went for a run last night. I didn't gain ANY this week! Woot! And that was with eating pretty much as I wanted and drinks most days. I tried not to go overboard and was mindful of cals in a general sense. I'm happy about that! The knee/IT band didn't hurt at all yesterday after running! Only 3 ART sessions and it's tons better. I'm going for another 3 miles tonight. :) I got back on the Jillian DVD horse this morning, too. I started with week 5 again since I didn't complete it right the first time around.

AS- is Turbo Fire the one you can get at the store? I've seen a program like that (at Linens and Things?) and wondered how it was.

I am prepared and armed with a fridge full of veggies this week.  And beans.  And chicken.  And quinoa.

This is my last intense week of marathon training, my last 20 miler will be on Sunday.  I have a hilly 10 miler tomorrow and speedwork on Thursday first though.  I'm going to be tired, I'm going to be hungry.   I want to start this race feeling lean and trim and so I have to be disciplined, starting now.  Because I'm sure all hell will break loose while I'm tapering.   Cutting back on booze.   And mindless snacks.

Ok... today was suppposed to be the day. But, this weekend was jam packed and I never got the chance to really prepare for the week (namely, making soup). So, I have my fiber cereal for breakfast and I think I'm going to make oatmeal for lunch, plus I have an apple and two cheese sticks. I'll have a bigger snack when I get home. Soup tonight!

Try taking it before you go to bed at night. Zyrtec does make me sleepy so I find that if I take it before I'm going to sleep anyway, it helps.

Oh, yeah, portion control is still necessary- no mater what you eat. But, you'll be more full/satisfied on 1200 (or whatever) calories of food that isn't going to spike your blood sugar. My point was more that I don't really think the diet industry (or the ff industry for that matter) is trying to get people addicted to their food so they will eat themselves fat. I just don't believe that. I *do* believe that those foods set off a reaction in your body which causes you to want to go back for more.

I don't know if the food industry wants consumers to be fat, but I do think they want consumers addicted to their food products so that they will continue to buy the products.  It's all about profits.

I agree that certain foods set off reactions in your body which make you want to go back for more (at sometimes it does feel uncontrollable!) but food companies are VERY aware of what foods and food combinations (ie. salt, sugar, fat) trigger those cravings and purposefully engineer their products to to make "crave-able" foods.

There's a whole chapter in The End of Overeating by David Kessler about this.  He interviews a guy in the industry who is open about the fact that this engineering takes place.

Yep.  Chips, for example.

I ate way too many of them yesterday.
