Holiday Party Cocktails/Punch
« on: December 06, 2017, 03:36:09 PM »
We're hosting our annual neighborhood Christmas Party and I usually make a holiday spiked punch sort of thing.  Last year, some new neighbors attended and they don't drink (and I was totally unprepared because everyone else does!), so this year, I wanted to make something that could be spirited or not.  I thought about making the punch/cocktail base but leaving out the champagne/prosecco/wine and having a bottle of sparkling cider available along with a bottle of champagne/prosecco etc and we can make our own drinks, spirited or not.

Any other suggestions?  Do you have a favorite cocktail/punch recipe that could be adapted this way?

Sounds like a very considerate thing to do.

I haven't made it yet, but plan to make this for a party, and just make a batch of the alternate recipe to serve in a pitcher alongside the punch bowl.

What's the weather? If chilly I put hot cider with spices on the stove and rum on the side.

It will be cool outside, but warm inside.  I love spiced cider, but this group leans to wines and not any other liquors that I know of.  I found a sparkling cranberry orange punch that uses Grand Marnier and sparkling wine so I think I can make one regular recipe and one with sparkling cider and orange juice concentrate?

Still thinking on it though.

I have a really delicious and easy punch that I'm pretty sure I got here, possibly from witchy? It can be boozy or not. I made it for my SIL's bridal shower and drinkers and nondrinkers alike enjoyed it. Let me see if I can find it or if we can get witchy to tell you what to do. (Because even if I'm misremembering, I think it's a safe bet witchy has a good recipe anyway!)

Wow, it was in the first place I looked.

* 2 can frozen limeade concentrate
* 2 64 oz. bottle 100% juice cranberry juice (not cocktail) (add to taste)
* 4 limes, sliced into thin rounds
* 2 bottle tonic or seltzer water (add to taste)

I believe we spiked it as necessary with vodka, but champagne might be nice, too.

Oh, that looks yummy too!  I have everything but limeade, but that's easily rectified.

a friend of mine served a delicious punch at her xmas bash last year.  she rattled off the recipe to me, and i can't remember it at all!  but the name of it was quite distinctive, so i'm gonna go see if i can find it on the marvelous interwebs.

oh, nevermind.  it's absolutely chock full of liquor!  i can't think of a way you'd substitute.

U.S.S. Richmond Punch

6  lemons
1 1⁄2 cup superfine sugar
2 cup strong-brewed black tea (use 2 teabags, 16 oz water)
2 cup dark Jamaican rum
2 cup VS or VSOP-grade Cognac
2 cup Ruby port
4 oz Grand Marnier
1500 ml soda water or Champagne

last year for New Year's we did a punch bowl of elderflower fizz, which could be mixed with vodka or gin as desired, but was good virgin too:

1 part elderflower cordial (we used Bottlegreen brand)
1 part fresh-squeezed lime juice
3 parts soda water

our usual go-to holiday punch is white wine sangria, but I don't think it's possible to create a virgin version of that...

I love elderflower liquer, so I think I would really like this.
