87°F bad humidity. 4 miles. I didn't realize how hilly yesterday was till I started today's run.

I sometimes wonder about the app suggestions. I'm extremely active and usually r*n 5 or 6 days in a row with 1 day off and Fitbit will often tell me I need to do a lot more or I risk under training. I'm glad I know what it was like before the tech came along, I wonder how it will work out for new/younger athletes.

Yes - I still have a 10k, 8k, 5k, LSD schedule etched in to my brain.  It was really quite effective for us middle of the packers.  Little risk of overtraining, just enough to make sure you could do the distance.   At my fittest I was certainly running more than that, but those were the "official" run days.  And I liked that it was just organic and not a watch telling me what to do.

But without the motivation of an old school run club I like that the garmin gives me some external motivation.  And it's sensible - if I came out of the gate running daily right now I'd tweak something and that would be the end of that.

I am really hoping that my daughters gym schedule lines up with the one run club I like come September.  It's not the same as it was back in the day, but better than nothing.

My big, existential goal with this is to be able to run long again.  3 hour long runs, 30k long runs.  They're just so good for me mentally.   It's been way too many years since I've done it.

My Garmin has me resting 3 days in a row (probably so I don't give up before I start considering my current level of unfit).  I might break protocol tonight though.

That reminds me of when people ask me how my run is, and generally I tell them that I'm still out of shape. Maybe tomorrow.

Nice job!

I did 6.1 hilly miles. It was pretty nice despite being humid, the heat had broken with some thunderstorms.

Yes - part of me longs for the days of driving the route to get the distance, taking note of the time when I left the house, and again when I got back.  That was my fitness tracker :D

I still catch myself resetting the distance in my car to get the mileage of a route that looks intriguing.
Reminds me of the first week after I bought my first bicycle (as an adult) back in the day. They asked if I wanted the bike computer but I declined. I spent more time tracing maps (and driving routes) that first week than riding, so I could log my miles. Humbly, I returned to the store a week later and I’ve been data driven ever since!

Ran the finale of the local midweek 5k trail run series… and won my AG!
The fellow who’d won most of these races “moved up” to the 10k distance tonight- having already clinched the 5k series win.
I’d already clinched series 2nd place… but getting my first win in 6 starts felt great! (Even though the fastest guys weren’t in the field today)

Welcome Rio!

Last Friday I did a hike with a couple thousand feet of vert, about 11km round trip up toward the Mt Wheeler summit (Great Basin NP). Mixed in just a little jogging on the way down once it flattened out.
