Everything smells like bacon!  Maple bacon is fried up for the (sweet) bread pudding topping.  1/2 pack of regular bacon is diced and in the fridge to go with the roasting of brussels sprouts later.  4 cups of bread cubes are "dried" in the oven to become "stale". Sweet potatoes are chunked.  I probably won't make a savory bread pudding today, so the other half of that onion is available for the mac and cheese.  I brined the pork loin overnight and switched to marinade this morning (basically more brine, but also with bourbon and some garlic).  Time to go drag out the smoker and wipe down the patio furniture.  Then will need to cut a little rosemary off my bush to use with the sweet potatoes later.  Once the the pork is in the smoker, I'll do the bread pudding (means I'll probably serve that cold or at room temp, but whatever - it will give me the opportunity to clean some dishes and get them out of the way.)  I only have one oven, so...  At least the rolls and the brussels sprouts go at about the same temp, so they will be last.  The mac and cheese will be done in enameled cast iron, so as long as the lid is on, that stays pretty warm on its own.

9 miles with a set of reps of 2,3,4,5,4,3,2 minutes getting progressively faster. Started at LT1 on the first couple then approaching LT2 for the next three (kind of the core of the workout) and then the last were more critical velocity and V02 max. Followed with 4X 30 sec fast.

Chilly but not cold at about 30 degrees and a breeze.

2 mile warm up, 2x800 at 5:20 pace, 2x400 at 5:00 pace, 2x200 at 4:20 pace with 400 jog between all, and 2 mile cool down. Total of just over 7 miles.

It was nice, about 38°F with full sun and no wind. I tried finding a track but the closest 2 were still snow covered so I just used a flat stretch of road that wasn't really busy.

My cold/infection seems to be receding. I did an easy double with 4.3 miles of running in the morning and the 10km of xc skiing at local park in the PM. The trails are in great shape! They have about 3 or 3.5 km of manmade snow, that's more than a meter thick, banked turns, steep climbs and swooping downhills.

Woke up with an inch of wet snow on the ground. Ran 2K to the subway. Snow basically melted or plowed away on the sidewalks and roads by the time I did my evening 7K run home.

1 minute high intensity interval/2 minute recovery interval repeated eight times with a short warm-up and cool down added for 3 miles total. Nice dry 43° weather, although no blue in that sky.

9.2 on a (mostly) clear of ice bike path. I did 4X 6 min tempo reps, 2X 20 sec strides on flat, and 2X 25 sec hill strides. The path was great and first time in a month that I really had clear pavement to run on, but the street crossings were icy so I had to slow down for those (about every 1/4 mile). Otherwise, great workout felt better than I had for this entire month.

Savory bread pudding needs work. (The "savory" is onion, a wee bit of garlic, rosemary, kalamata olive & gruyere.  And salt & pepper).  The recipe I was referencing really had too long a cook time, but the cheese formed a crust so it did not dry out.  I did not have enough of any of the seasoning other than onion.  I like my seasoning!

Sweet bread pudding is successful (but better with maple bacon on top).  Just hadn't made it in so long, I wanted to run a test.  Converting from a 9x13 pan recipe to an 8x8 pan recipe does not work neatly at all, but it was close enough. I might have had a tad too much bread, as it tasted fairly light for a bread pudding.  The bread wasn't fully immersed so it was crunchy on top, but it worked for me.  I liked it.  I'll probably do it "right" on Christmas (when I do the full 9x13 and do the bacon) but this was good too.
