Finally caught a group run with the local running club that I've been wanting to hook up with - super nice people, 7.11 miles at easy pace. Felt great. Think this might be a regular Saturday AM thing, whenever I can do it.

10 miles, pace. Felt strong. Cool, overcast and then a drenching rain.

Bloody perfect.

So tired.

Cool, we will need a report.

Trails, cool at first, then showers, then pouring rain and cold.  One fall, a face plant. My mouth was full of dirt.  :(

No PR or good finishing time, but I took it easy after my nose, my lips, elbow, knee, and ankle were beaten up.

10 mile race. There is also a 20 mile race which runs two loops of the course and was popular as a training run for fall marathons. I was hoping for 8 minute pace. I had focused on taking down my 5k season best lately so I haven't run longer than 3.1 miles in the last two weeks

The weather was great. My planning wasn't. I got to the race late. Had to park half a mile away and jog to the registration table. That was all the warm up and stretching I got in since I got there 3 minutes before the starting gun.

I jumped in about the middle of the crowd, they play the national anthem, and we are off. First mile in 8:13, but with the swerving around slower runners I figured I was at about the right effort. Mile 2 in 8 flat. Perfect. Mile 3 in 8:20. Some hills, so not too bad. Mile 4 in 8:03. That had some down hill, so I was a little worried that I didn't put time in the bank. And my left foot and hip was getting a little sore.

Mile 5 in 8:27. More hills, and I was struggling to hold pace. 1:20 flat was out the window. My next goal was 1:22. So I focused on good form and steady effort.

Mile 6 in 8:24. Some hills, so not surprising. Mile 7 in 8:43. Last of the hills, but ooof, what a struggle, and my hammies were getting tight. Now it was flat to the finish. Mile 8 in 8:11, mile 9 also in 8:11, and a hard mile 10 gets me 7:45 and a 1:22:16 finish.

It felt good to pass 10 runners during that last mile, until I got to the finish and all of them bypassed the finish line to run the second leg of the 20 miler. They almost beat me with their long run split. Oh, well.

A ten mile season best by just over 6 minutes. Best time in 4 years. A great run even though it hurt a little.

Good miles everybody.

That's why trails are not for me, uneven ground spooks me.

People started telling me that I needed to gain weight when I got to about 175 or so...I tell them that if 5'11 175 (or 170 or 165 or 160) is too thin, they've succumbed to the norms of modern society...because, that's ridiculous...Now, not fat, somehow = skinny...

I could not agree more, overweight is the new normal.
