How do you like them apples!?
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:48:19 AM »
It's apple season here in VT, and my baby apple trees are all grown up* and produced more than a handful of apples.  I've wasted an hour online looking at recipes trying to decide what to do with them.  Just freeze 'em, apple butter...?  Still can't decide.  All options are so good.

What do you do with yours?

apple season started here, too.  We have the Hendersonville Apple Festival this weekend.

We'll definitely be making a good bit of applesauce and apple cake.

Can you store them?  Some varieties store better than others, but they should last quite some time in a cool/cold dry place.

Also: apple chutney, apple butter, apple butter with ginger, apple-rosemary jelly.  My mother freezes pie filing, mixes up the slice apple, flour, sugar, spices and then freezes in single pie portions.

What about getting them pressed into cider?  Or if you have a decent juicer, doing that yourself.

Or make alcoholic cider.

I was thinking sugar balls, too.

I make apple sauce, lots and lots and lots, and freeze.
