Filters have been on my "to buy" list for ages, and I just haven't gotten around to it. This picture may have been precisely what I needed to get my priorities straightened out! Yikes!!!

That's pretty much their primary function.  Kind of like Secret Service agents.

I was shocked when I opened my camera bag- I was just packing for vacation . It must have just taken a hit at just the right angle.   I didn't have another clear filter to out on so I threw on a polarizer for travel. I will replace this one ASAP. Thirty dollar filter protected an $800 lens.

Been there, with a work camera. I was happy to replace that filter out of my own pocket!

I need to order replacement filters tomorrow. I don't have one for my 50 but I know I'd be unhappy if that lens cracked so ill buy one.
