Today's rant:

Last Monday I weighed 1x3.  I was happy, because I'd like to be 8 pounds less than that by the end of December and that seemed realistic.

After a week of eating right and exercising 1.5 hours per day, by Friday I weighed 1x5.  That's right, instead of losing, I gained 2 pounds.  Water, I explained to myself and vowed not to stress about it.

I had a couple of brownies and handful of munchkins this weekend, but otherwise I ate pretty well and stayed active.

This morning?  1x8.  5 pounds more than the Monday before, and +3 from the DAY before.

Now I need to lose 13 before the end of December, which seems entirely unrealistic.

Trying very hard not to hate.

Oh, that sucks, Mini! Keep doing what you're doing, though - because it sounds like you're doing everything right. It has to come off eventually. You're drinking enough water, right?

Yeah, and peeing like crazy, so I'm not retaining water.

Sometimes I feel like it takes my body a week or longer to process actual weight gain (and definitely loss!) because when I think I've had a killer week, a lot of times I won't see the loss I expect. Or vice-versa - if I have blown it, I don't see that gain right away. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I never really see the day-to-day correspondence of what I have done diet & exercise-wise to how my weight goes. So I just go with it and focus on the big picture.

What cgraz said. My body seems like it's always running a couple of weeks behind.

I am 5'8", can't be THAT noticeable  :sigh:

I'm 5'8" and 10 lbs is a couple of sizes different.  But most people don't actually notice.  Just me.

Seriously? I am 5'3" and it takes me at least 10 lbs to change one size, if not more. I really didn't switch anything in my wardrobe until I was about 15 lbs into the diet.

Yes.  I've lost about 15 lbs and gone from 8/10 to 2/4.   Some of that is size creep, but not all of it.  I gain in my waist, butt, and upper thighs, so it doesn't take a big change for my pants to not fit.  One reason that I don't wear pants that frequently.  Skirts and dresses are much more forgiving of a couple of lbs one way or the other.

Size creep is the number one reason that I'm sure I want to even get back down to my original weight; I won't be able to buy anything small enough.  The number two reason is that I don't want to lose any more boob because then I won't be able to buy bras that fit.  (Really.  Even when I was an AA, I need bras cut like a B, but just not sticking out so far; they don't cut AA bras that way.  Or A bras.  So the  underwire was always digging someplace it didn't belong and the cups were too close together.)  I'd have to be way more active to do that anyway.

It depends on the sizes, and of course sizes are crazy. I have clothes that run in sizes from 6 to 10 that all fit about the same.

1x5 today.  No hope for getting back to 1x3 anytime soon with Thanksgiving and my birthday this week.  Sigh.

I'm not doing great, not doing horrible either. The holiday eating thing has kind of derailed me and I find myself using excercise as an excuse to "cheat" too often. Overall, my meals are pretty decent with probably a little more crap than necessary. Back on the straight and narrow starting monday. Not that I'll go crazy between now and then, but the disrupted schedule this week is kind of tough.

I'm holding steady here. Considering, that's a good thing. Thanksgiving will likely derail me a bit, but whatever. I need to start getting up and walking in the mornings.

I'm going to be totally honest and tell you that I think 8 by the end of December could actually be a pretty significant stretch. I mean, you can generally expect to lose 1-2lbs, on average, per week. So, 8lbs by the end of December requires that you lose the maximum each week. When you add into that that you've been dieting for a while and lost quite a bit already, losing in the upper end of the spectrum, continuously, for a month seems like it could be a recipe for frusteration and disapointment as your body does what our bodies do and gains a bit, loses a chunk, stays the same, loses a little more, gains a few, etc, etc. I would suggest that a goal of 4-5lbs would probably be more inline, although that could even be tough given the holidays, etc.

I don't at all mean this to be discouraging, I just wonder if you're setting yourself up for a lot of self flagellation based on a goal that is really a pretty decent reach.

Regarding sizes, the smaller you are, the fewer pounds between sizes (from my experience).  When I went from a 22 to a 20, it was over 20 lbs.  Slightly less as I got down to a 14/16.  But not much.  I suspect that were I ever to get below a 14 and could keep losing, that number of pounds needed to get in the next size would be even smaller.  But I'll probably never know.

Yahbut from last monday it was 6 weeks to the end of December.  Plenty of time to lose 8 pounds at 1-2 pounds per week.

I'm back at 1x3 this morning, for no good reason.  I'm amending my December goal to 1x0, which I hoped to reach by the end of November.

Courtney, yes sizes do work that way.  In plus sizes, a size is 2 inches bigger/smaller.  In misses sizes, it's one inch.  So to go from a 20 to an 18 is about 20 pounds, to go from a 8 to a 6 is closer to 10 pounds.   Noting of course that sizes vary tremendously, so I have some 8s that are looser than 6s, etc.

That makes sense...  I mean, I guess it does, considering how weird women's sizing is in general.  :D

I'm feeling more hopeful now that my doctor has identified a thyroid problem, so hopefully when we get this under control, I will be able to see a difference in my body based on what I'm eating.  Right now it seems like regardless of what I eat (mostly crap vs mostly real food) I stay the same or gain slightly.

They did identify something? That's good! What did they find? (not that you have to tell us, of course, I'm just nosy.)

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

So I went our dress shipping on wed and almost ended up in tears. Which do I look like a bad male cross dresser in absolutely everything? It is so frustrating...I just want to look feminine and sexy but I am shaped like a fotball player guy.

Sorry, MM.  Some shopping trips are like that.  I keep telling myself it's not me, it's the clothes that aren't right, but I still end up feeling lumpy and unattractive.  Don't get discouraged.  Maybe get some style advice from a personal shopper?

I tried to keep things under control yesterday, but still am hearing my body say "hey, you ate a lot yesterday, why not keep eating?" I'm eating an apple right now to keep from going overboard at lunch.

Sorry MM. I know the feeling - having a body that doesn't work with current style trends is frustrating.

Woke up this morning and weighed in - between Thanksgiving and the wine tasting we went to last Saturday, I gained about a pound or so. I really think any Thanksgiving gain will show up in the next week, but I will try to eat well and exercise a lot, so I can minimize that. Now it's about damage control in between eating/drinking occasions from now until Christmas. We have a holiday party to go to December 1, and there will be many vodka tonics consumed then, so I need to be realistic about where I'm at and where I could be after the holidays.

I ate a lot yesterday but didn't go crazy, still, I felt really uncomfortably full after dinner and even into the night. I think my body is just not used to such a heavy meal! And so much grazing...on cheese and salami. Mmm. I gave away a good portion of leftovers to MIL, but still have a lot of food in the house. I don't even know how to track most of this stuff in terms of WW points, unless I enter every recipe and figure it out.

Meanwhile, I had a sliver of apple pie for breakfast. I didn't give any of that to MIL, and I probably should have!
