Which makes the Mommy Guilt worse - leaving her at school for an extra hour, or picking her up when you do now, knowing she's going to come home screaming and you're going to be cranky and resentful because of it?

Hugs to all of you with screaming children. My 18 month old niece is visiting (along with her parents and my mother) and she is a very cheerful, happy, easy child. But when she is unhappy, we know about it!

So with the visit, I am now halfway through a period of giant non-austerity. To include a giant bowl of licorice (now half empty), stroopwafels (dutch cookies) and cocktails/long drinks pretty much every day. We eat more or less the same as we normally do though.

The weather is supposed to turn here (for the better!) tomorrow. About time. This nasty humid weather is not at all what I had in mind.

They will be here through the 16th and after that it is back to austerity and exercise. Well, back to austerity and adding exercise, as I wasn't doing any before...

I love stroopwafels!

Decent weigh-in on Friday, despite some debauchery (and an awful lot of buffalo chicken dip!) over Labor Day weekend.

Later today I'll be running a 4-miler that I am woefully unprepared for. But it's all good.

and then there is that mommy guilt, LOL!!

Oh.. first things first.. no need to have any mommy guilt at all... You need to take care of yourself first before you can be there for the people around you.. If an extra hour to yourself makes you a happier, more sane person.. it's worth it.. Plus, it's not like she's not having fun there!  Cripes.. I used to send my kids to daycare sometimes even when I had a day off.. they liked it and I needed "me" time... Your new mantra should be "no more guilt"

How are things going, everyone?

I'm hanging in there. Food is good, still a slacker on exercise.  :-\

We found out last night that we have a slow leak coming from the bottom of the toilet in our bathroom, so I'm probably going to have to take a day off of work to deal with that. Flippin' awesome. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am for that.  :eyeroll:

How are you finding the 30DS debba?

My thyroid is fine they say so they don't know what is causing my heart to be all crazy. So I have to have more tests bleh.  Had to wear the holter monitor all last week.  I am allowed to work out but running is not going so well because I am dizzy and lightheaded all the time.  Also so so tired.  Frustrating.    :wah:

I've been a complete slacker! Awful, I know. I really did enjoy it the few times I did it, but then I slept horribly all week last week, so I didn't get much exercise at all.  :-[

Things are going better for me. I've been eating a little more and also excercising regularly. I ran 3 days last week, did tennis one day, did a dance class one day, and a spin class another day.

I've been doing my version of c25k which means I don't start at the beginning and I will run through the protocol twice. I use a podcast called "podrunner" which I like a lot. So, yesterday I ran the week 5, day 2, twice (four 8 minute running segments with 5 minute walk breaks in between). I was able to do that without too much difficulty so I think next week I'll move on to the week 6 mixes and then maybe move to running for 20 minute blocks. I think I need new shoes though. Surprisingly, my shins don't hurt... but everything else does. My hips, hamstrings, knees. Not the joints... more like the attachment points for the ilio tibial band, I would say.

I'm finding it's easier to eat now that we are "home" and we're not living out of suitcases and reusable grocery bags. I had gotten into the bad habit of eating very little and eating like crap when I did eat (a lot of chips & salsa and ice cream  ;)) so I'm trying to get back on the healthy bandwagon. I got the costco bundle of field roast sausages and have been eating those. They make a quick, filling, reasonable caloried meal. ...and eggs. I've been eating a lot of open faced egg sandwhiches. Yesterday I crushed half an avocado on toast, plus some tomato, onion, dijon mustard, a little cheese- under the broiler, and then topped with a fried egg.

I grew up hating them and they still gross me out sometimes... but I've learned to mostly really like them. Which is a good thing because they are a cheap form of protein and I find them very filling and a very reasonable number of calories.

Yeah, I pretty much only like the scrambled rock-hard, preferably with cheese and tortilla chips crunched up with them. :) Or in a casserole or something. I never seem to make them very well, myself.  :grr:

onawhim- i hope you get answers!

DH soaked a bag of dry black beans all weekend and never used them. I proceeded to make black bean soup this morning for lunch (we had a play date too, so lunch for 4) and guess what? they were black soy beans, not black beans  :o The bag DH took was in Chinese and he did not realize it and they were not round like the black soy beans i usually get. I pureed the soup and i think it is possible I can save it, but we will see. Luckily i had some pasta salad from yesterday and mac n cheese for the kids. whew.

Hoping to get back on track with exercise this week and be consistent.

I'm relieved I'm not the only one posting "trying to get back on track..."  I've had a bad spell of good week/bad week alternating.  Hoping to get momentum going so I get more good weeks in a row.

I have come back to the conclusion that I really can't eat grain.  Bread, pasta, crackers, donuts, even oatmeal... they all lead me into cravings, binges, and out-of-control behavior.  I can handle small amounts of sugar, but grains send me spiraling out of control.    I think my multivitamin has enough b vitamins and the rest of my diet has enough fiber so I won't be missing much by eliminating grain.  I don't like taking an entire food group out of my diet, but I think I'm going to try to go a couple of months without it before thinking of slowly integrating it back.

So frustrating because I love bread in all its forms.

Shut up mini. Just because google changed it, doesn't mean in elementary school, we got it wrong.

it's worth a try, i suppose, mini! but all grains? even brown rice and quinoa? Me, carbs like bread and pasta, and sugar are my enemy. I was off them for a while and felt great, but sheesh, they are so g-d yummy.
