I have never been a lap swimmer.  I was on the dive team as a child (so we did warm-ups swimming with the swim team) and am a scuba diver.  But I can't recall ever swimming laps.
For the one sprint tri I did, I didn't train for the swimming portion b/c it was a last minute thing.

I don't get very hungry at all after runs (even long runs) or mountain biking so this is surprising.  In fact, since the swim I've had quite a bit to drink, half a pb&j and some cherries and am still feeling very hungry.  I'll have to give it another try but maybe eat a better lunch beforehand next time.

I do not get very hungry after running or biking either, but after swimming, it was different.  I trained for 2 half ironman triathlons, and the hunger never disappeared after the swimming.  I also experienced a lot of skin allergy problems (chlorine).  That is why I quit swimming.

I ran 30 miles today. I will eat my weight in food at the Japanese buffet tonight with my running partner. Then tomorrow I start my 2 week super diet to try to lose a few more pounds before race day. When i confided in my running partner (who is running her first Badwater this year and was on my crew last year) what i weighed at the start of the race she was shocked and agreed the scale had to be off. whew.

i am super duper excited!!!  :azn: last year i was super duper nervous more than anything. I am sure there will be nerves, but a lot more excitement this year. The whole race, since it is so small and invite only, is really like a family. it is super nice just to go and see everyone every year as well (though DH told me that i cannot go back next year. :( lots of $ and vacation time).

So I decided to splurge and have seafood rooftop last night for the first time ever and it was undercooked..then rice was hard. I don't like sending stuff back so I just ate all the seafood out of it. So disappointing!

seafood risotto and auto-correct maybe?  if so, that's TOTALLY disappointing.

sorry, MG.  Did you tell the restaurant that the risotto wasn't cooked enough?  (It sounds like it wasn't just a toothy bite if the rice was hard.)
If I lived closer, I'd make seafood risotto for you two.

I should have but I really hate complaining and I wasn't even sure if it was wrong since I never had it before but then I had others taste it and it was definately uncooked. It had that starchy flavor of uncooked rice and the kernals were hard. :(

Meri, that's awesome - I'm so in awe of you. I can't even imagine. :)

Y'all, I'm freakin' exhausted and we ate like crap this weekend, so  >:(. We dropped Reid off at my parents' house Friday evening, had burgers for dinner, and then went to the Van Halen concert in SA. The show was fun, but the people behind us kept lighting up - and not cigarettes - which triggered both an asthma attack and a RAGING headache for me. Like, rolled over in my sleep and woke up from the pain headache. So my brain has hurt for two days and I've been hacking up a lung. Last night before bed, I took a Zyrtec - the mold count is over 5K right now - and two advil. And then, at 1 AM, I had to dig my codeine cough syrup out of the medicine cabinet and take that. So this morning, I'm dehydrated, my head still vaguely hurts, the cough is coming back, and I feel slightly drunk.

Needless to say, I didn't run this morning.

The concert itself was fun, although David Lee Roth is batshit crazy. The near-migraine-like headaches Saturday and Sunday mornings sucked. God Bless DH, when Reid woke up early on Sunday morning (THANKS, MOM), I told him I felt like shit and he let me take two Aleve and go back to bed while he took Reid. He makes me insane sometimes, but then he pulls through when it counts. It took until yesterday afternoon for me to connect the coughing fits with the pot smoke at the show. I should have downed the cough syrup with everything else before bed last night - it would have worked its way through me by the time I woke up instead of me waking up still vaguely high from it. Oh well.

I'm taking my inhaler to work with me today, though. May pick up some daytime stuff on my way in, too. That's the one good thing - I work until 7 tonight, so I don't have to go in until 10. Gave me some time to get that cleared out.

I ate lamb heart and lamb kidney this weekend for the first time ever. Also sushi, two glasses of sparkling wine and pizza (homemade). It could have been much worse, as I normally would have a lot more wine at the dinner party and there was zero snacking. Plus, lots of DFW and I did run (shuffle) on Sunday. But still, back to austerity today. Well, after lunch because I will have some leftover pizza for lunch.  :d

Debba, feel better! Mm, what a bummer about the risotto!

I hate that. I find it's about 50/50 in restaurants. It looks done long before it's actually done and it's something that restaurants typically partially cook ahead of time and then finish at the time of service... and it's so variable with how much it was started and the individaul rice, and so on... if the cook doesn't test it before sending it out...  :nono:

Debba, I hope you feel better!!

Ok, for those of you who were interested in workouts...

This was the one that made me sore!  I copied this from my trainer's email, so I'll make some notes so you know wtf he means :D

Legs
Lunges/ Single Leg Dead Lift 8 sets 8 reps - Straight lunges, do 4 (2 on each side), then do 4 single leg deadlifts (2 on each side).  Repeat this EIGHT MOTHERFUCKING TIMES.
Tabata Squats 8 cycles - This means you do 20 seconds of squats (we just used body weight, and did them fairly quickly), 10 seconds of rest.  Repeat 8 times (4 min total)

Upper Body
Chest and Back 8 sets 8 reps - I did pushups for chest and the cable row for back.  8 sets of 8 reps, doesn't sound hard, but I was feeling it!!
Shoulders/Biceps/Triceps 1 set 50 reps (yes, I said 50!) - this, my friends, was TOUGH.  I did overhead press for shoulders (using the heaviest weight I could manage, and had to switch to a lower weight part of the way thru), bicep curls (same thing), and then we did Mikeys for triceps.  If you've never done these, they are awesome.  We use the squat rack.  You put the bar about chest high, stand back from it, hold on with your hands, and then you lower/swing yourself under the bar, ducking your head, then push yourself back up to standing.  Holy moly...  50 of these in a row are hard!!

Then we did abs.  Which was some conglomeration of stuff he likes to make us do, for about 7-8 min.  Iron cross, russian twist, bicycles, crunches, oblique stuff.  Whew.

So then on Thursday, we did this:
Legs
Leg Ext 30 compression/Lunges x 2 sets - there were two of us, so one of us did leg extensions on the machine.  30 total, and you do 10, rest for 5 sec, do 10, rest for 5 then do 10.  While one of us was doing that, the other person did straight lunges (we held weights, but if you aren't up for that/ready for that, just use body weight).  Then you switch.  Then you repeat both of them.

Ex Ball Bent Leg Raises/DB Single Leg Dead Lifts 1 min each x 2 sets - One of us did single leg deadlifts while the other one did these ridiculous things.  You lay down, put your heels up on a ball, and lift one leg up (bent), then raise your butt in the air.  THen you switch out legs, without lowering your butt.  You do it for 1 min.  Then you switch.  Do each thing twice.

Upper Body
8,10,12,15 rep cluster set - we did sets of 8, then 10, then 12, then 15 with the heaviest weights we could manage.  We did shoulders, biceps, triceps, chest, and back.  We picked our exercise, but I did bicep curls, overhead shoulder press, pushups, Mikeys, and cable rows.
100 jump ropes after each body part- in between body parts, we jumped rope.  Eep!

Abs
Sit ups 10 reps
Hold & Pulse
Bicycles 50 reps
Ball Catches 15 reps 10 pulses
Repeat

I'm getting so much stronger.  It's awesome.  I've moved up from 8 lb weights on biceps to doing 12-15 lbs depending on how many reps we are doing.  Shoulders are getting stronger, and I WILL be doing real pushups before long.  I'm doing them right now using the squat rack bar, moving it lower and lower to the ground as I get stronger.

Single leg deadlifts make me sore EVERY TIME.
