Coyzmum, I hope it warms up enough for you to swim in the ocean!  Enjoy your vacation. :)

I've been trying to catch up on laundry today.  Boring.  We took the kids to the grocery store & Lowes, usually they sit out in the car with one of us be we all went in and they were very well behaved.  It's nice when they listen and hold our hands when asked.  We tried to go for a run/walk on the Greenway but they were not having it...too close to nap time and wanted to be carried the entire time.

Once we got home & they napped DH & I did a 3.1 mile run.  I could have ran faster but he was struggling a bit so I eased off and coached him, and a little teasing.  A nice productive day today and it's time for the kids to get up from their nap.

I knew there was a seething beast beneath the calm waters.  -Fionn

So...  I saw my doc today for blood work, because I am concerned my thyroid may be goofy.  I have a number of symptoms, but the tests came back fine.  I talked to her about my frustration with my weight, and how I just feel like the 25 lbs I've gained in the last 2 years doesn't seem right.  And how even after I switched jobs, reduced stress, increased my activity quite a bit, and have gotten a mostly hold on some of my behaviors, I haven't lost any weight, and it is so maddening.

She asked me about trying a weight loss drug (a diabetes drug, glucophage, I think) and I'm really not on board with it.  Then she suggested trying gluten free, based on a number of things.  Sigh...

Sometimes it feels hopeless.

Oh, Courtney, that sucks. I've wondered if my thyroid was off, too, but my blood work always comes back just fine.  :sigh: Is there anything we can do to help?

I have felt the same way about thyroid but I continuously fall in the normal range. I have read some research that indicated that low testaterone levels in women could cause the same symptoms but nobody ever seems to check them. I need to ask my girlie Dr about this because I think it would help my sex drive also.

The problem with low testosterone is that no one seems to know what a "normal" range should be. I had no sex drive (still don't, actually) and tried testosterone cream for a while, but it was a giant PITA to remember, so I just gave it up.

Courtney, what about acupuncture? I've gotten ridiculously good results for my allergies, and I know my acupuncturist offers help for weight loss, too. I've noticed an increase in energy since going, too.

Bolloxd, yay!, it's always so much more fun to shop when the kids behave.  Mine are 6 and 4 and it is still a struggle sometimes.  Especially Lowe's, they get bored there quick.  I love that you and your husband have a sysytem to work out.  If I didn't have a gym at work, I'm not sure how I would fit it in.

Courtney, I'm sorry you are having a hard time.  Maybe the doctor will find something is off somewhere.  I can't quote specifics, but didn't someone here have to be tested a lot before their doctor finally figured out something just wasn't right.  And I think it was their thyroid which didn't show up at first?...  Sorry you are going through this.  So frustrating and I understand about not being on board with the drug.

Cozy mum, it is bootsie who went thru that, which is one of the reasons I checked into it.  My doctor doesn't think it's anything to do with my thyroid, and she is probably right.

Why did she suggest gluten-free? Just curious, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I just know it's the "miracle cure" in weight loss right now.

I'm not entirely sure...  But I have some digestive issues, and she said that she's seen it help some people.

I'm not sure I really buy it.

I ran/walked 4 miles tonight.  Perfect running temps, mid-50's at dusk.  Felt pretty good.

Got up at 5 and ran. The workout itself went great. Came home at 5:36 and Reid was screaming his head off. Apparently he'd been at it since 5:10. Dammit, that's exactly why I feel guilty about going. DH was like, "Yeah, he'd just calmed down some right before you came back." He wasn't mad or anything, but still. I feel awful. :(

Courtney-- glucophage/metformin is pretty commonly prescribed. Personally, i would try it. When i was trying to figure things out, insulin resistance was something that came up as a possibility and it would have also explained my extreme hunger. It is also commonly used to treat PCOS symptoms. Are you on birth control of any kind? Since I have had the Mirena out, after not being able to lose any weight, I have so far lost about 6lbs. I am trying my hardest, but i was trying pretty darn hard before as well. Did your dr do all the insulin tests? How about thyroid antibodies?

Debba-- good job on getting out there! sorry i have stopped with the wake up calls, but if you still need some, let me know :) hoping DD wakes up soon so we can get in the stroller.

Thanks, Meri! I might take you up on that, but I know you're not getting up as early, so feel free to tell me to shove it.

Apparently one of the dogs behind us started yapping, and that's what woke up Reid, but still. I felt SO guilty when I walked back in and heard him bellowing, "DADDY! I!! AWAKE!!! NOW!!!!!" It was pretty clear he'd been saying it for a while. DH swears he's not upset, though.

Daddy's have different ears than mommys for sure  :eyeroll:

i am doing some 5am runs (yesterday and tomorrow) but trying to do more jogging stroller runs when i can. I am thinking for my 2 peak weeks of doing 5am + jogging stroller + prework run to get an extra 5 miles in 2xs a week. we shall see.

taking DD to the beach for the first time this weekend, was bummed that the only food choices seem to be italian/pizza, but then i remembered i am running 30 miles (god willingly) before we go, so it should be all good for pizza AND ice cream :D

Oh, DH heard him. You'd have had to be deaf to have missed it. He said he went in to check a few minutes after Reid woke up, and he seemed to calm down a little, so DH went back to bed, and Reid started yelling again. He'd apparently just calmed back down about 2 minutes before I walked in the door - which creaked when I opened it and I think got him going again.  :sigh:

DH was like, "I didn't know what to do!" Dude, seriously? Apparently he's forgotten all the sleep training work we did? WTF?

I have the Mirena, and have for about 4 years now.  I successfully lost weight while it was in a couple years ago, so I don't think that is an issue for me.

We did not do any insulin tests that I know of (just fasting glucose) and we tested TSH...  is that thyroid antibodies?

Is it weird to go back to my doctor and suggest this stuff?

I don't understand why he would be upset.  Why are you in charge of getting him when he yells.  I would not feel guilty for being gone for 20 minutes of hollering.
