5 miles is, in theory, about 10,000 steps :)  Of course it counts!!

I don't have good advice for you on the other part.  I struggle with being hungry all day on the days I teach spin at 5:30 am.  It's like I never get ahead of it.

When I swim I get so hungry I start daydreaming about hunting and eating my CW's.

I totally agree that moving all day helps a lot.  Growing up I thought I had one of those super fast metabolisms but it turns out I just lived on a farm  :hah: So are you supposed to walk 10k and also exercise or can it be included.  This is a round about way of asking how many "steps" is something like yoga?  See this is why I can't do this obsessive tracking stuff.  It drives me nuts even in theory  :D

Hee!  Thanks caito!  :D

Ya'll are making me want a fitbit, but I don't have the extra cash.  I'll just try to cover 5 miles every day...chasing twins is helpful with weight loss.

I did a 3.1 mile run as another test for Saturday's 5K.  Man did that suck....my knee wasn't happy, I felt hot, couldn't get going & just blah.  I'm hoping the cool-ish weather Sat morning will help.  I did my abs & push-ups test.  I can actually do 33 REAL PROPER PUSH-UPS!  Very thrilled about that.  Still not 50, but a nice leap from my initial 12.

I am panicking a bit over food/nutrition for the 5K.  Anyone have any tips for food?   On any day I run I'm usually starving too.  Very hard to overcome.

Meri, all of the above! Entire day before, breakfast that day, and even after.  Mainly my goal is to not feel weak during the run...that is what worries me.  Also not wanting to puke whatever I ate.

Thanks Courtney!  :)   It's taken me 4 months to get that far.

Food - good today. I'm starving right now, though, which is kind of a bummer. At the same time, it's almost time to go home, so I can hold out 30 more minutes. Supposed to go to the gym tonight, but I'm debating. I'm sore from both the gym AND the car wreck the other night.  :-\ Last night I was so sore that I took 3 Advil and laid on a hot rice sock thing for 30 minutes before bed. It helped, but there are very definitely still some twinges.

Because of y'all I busted out my ipod pedometer to see what my commute is. I am at 1200 and I just got on the train.

Which one do you use?

Is it too hot for a hot bath?  It sounds like it would do you good.  Take a rest day, you were just in a car wreck!  Your body is healing.

OMG, a hot bath sounds heavenly. I may try that. I didn't have a chance yesterday, but I should tonight.

Just the one that came standard on my i-pod mini. I also have one going on a phone app in my other pocket so I can see how the two compare.

i would have a nice dinner the night before with pasta or something with rice, but no need to overdo it portion wise, familiar and bland foods. Morning of I always like to eat toast or a bagel or oatmeal or a muffin, again, something carby but bland. During a 5K you do not really need any calories during the race, unless you feel like you will, then maybe a baggie of animal crackers or a granola bar. After, a nice choc soy milk or choc milk is good, or an ensure. I like to have protein + carbs.

I'm at about 4400 just from my normal work day.  We did not walk at lunch and I did go to the downstairs bathroom when I had to go and made a ton of trips to the copier.  I'm getting ready to go for a run as soon as I change my laundry.. I'm tired but If I can manage to squeak out even 3-4 miles I should hit 10k at least.. which is a good thing because I went out to lunch and had a grilled chicken sandwich with blue cheese and onions and french fries :yikes:
