Fitbit question!   Do you think it tracks calorie burn well if you do a weight lifting workout?  Or does fitbit really work by counting steps?

Dinner with friends last night. I may have eaten an entire plate of gnochi to my self.  :yikes: Oh... and 3 glasses of wine. Also, I learned I am no longer a three glasses of wine in one night kind of person. Oy!

I'm not sure...  I looked at the forums a bit, and it seems to not be clear.  I am doing a weight workout today, so after I sync tonight I might know a bit more.  I understand it works great for walking and running, and if you put it on the leg of your bike shorts when biking.  But I'm not sure about lifting.  I'll let you know the result of my test today.

MoS, I'll look for that on the site :)  I kind of wish I had the base here at work now, so it was syncing with the website more often.  But I did just walk over to our other building, entirely to get more steps :D

Caito - it won't track your calorie burn for lifting - you have to manually add that into either Fitbit or MFP if that is what you are using.  And just for the record, I ride quite a bit and it isn't accurate for that, either.  After a 26 mile ride it gave me 3,000 steps. >:(

That's good to know.  Did you put it on the leg of your bike shorts?  I'm going to try it on Saturday at my spin class.

Do you want to be friends on there?

I am friending you now!  I did put it on the leg of my shorts, but then I heard on the waistband actually worked better.  I am spinning in the morning so I will try it on my waist and report back.

This is really good for me. I used to always take the stairs no matter what but I have gotten really lazy. I normally encounter 7 flights of stairs on my way to work and I usually skip 2 of them and take the escalater. Today I took them all and then I had another 12 flights to go drop something off at the other building that I would gnerally take the elevator for but I walked them instead. Rebuilding good habits! I am now at 3500 by 11AM just in usual daily activities. Not bad considering my workout isn't until tonight (5.5 miles planned).

So what is the deal with 10k steps a day?  Is that number supposed to be good for weight loss or health or what?  If you all keep talking about this I will buy and then never use one so I need to know if it is worth it  :D

It is the amount of exercise reccomended by all kinds of health advocacy groups on a daily basis.

It kind of started with Dr. James Hill and America on the Move.  They started getting the word out that 10,000 steps a day + small diet changes could make a big health impact.
