7km (walk/jog intervals with 5k jogging)
“Couch to 5k” portion of the marathon plan is in the books!
8 days post-injury and I went out planning on an easy 5k trail hike with “up to” 50% of it jogging instead of walking.
Well I guess I was feeling good cause after a 50/50 split for the first km I started going with 60/40 then 70/30. After another 700m jog I did an 80/20 and then finished with a full mile 1600m jogging.
Back doesn’t hurt as much if I
-keep the strides short (so, higher cadence)
-breathe deep (relax those tight back muscles)
-stick to dirt/grass (walked the concrete portions of my route)
Ankle reminded me it’s not 100% yet (5 weeks post-sprain) mostly on jumps (pushing off to accelerate from a walk) and uphill where I’m flexing my toe higher up toward my knee. So still need to go easy on that for next couple weeks, too.
Took the poles but didn’t use them (flat trail). I will only need them hiking tech trail for next couple weeks.
Unseasonably warm 33C/95F but most of my trail was shaded.
Good to be back in the game.
