Boston
« on: April 21, 2022, 02:33:25 PM »
This was my second Boston, last time was 2018 with all that rain and wind. Not a pleasant experience.

The goal on Monday was a sub 3, and thought 2:55-2:59 was realistic. Qualified with a 3:02 last year. Ran close to even splits (1:29XX, 1:30XX) but finished just over 3. That would have been nice (especially to make 5DS3*) but the result does not detract from my overall experience.

The logistical and community support there are amazing, and really those are the best things about the event. I did have to wait/stand for the better part of an hour to get onto the bus, but it wasn't terrible and then didn't have to stew around at the athlete's village for so long. The walk to the start was no big deal.

The only thing I did not like on the course were the "crossing" islands toward the end (Beacon Street) where they had diversion arrows and islands every km or mile or so where people could cross the street in phases. That made the course narrow (less than one lane sometimes) it got crowded in there, and you had to divert your stride. Best on the course was the Will Smith slap face in the first few miles and just the incredible support you got the entire way.

*5 decades sub 3

Here are the splits:
5k   0:21:24
10k   0:42:35
15k   1:03:40
20k   1:25:01
Half   1:29:39
25k   1:45:58
30k   2:07:32
35k   2:29:19
40k   2:50:53

Now I'll cross train and take it easy some.  :lambie:

Congrats Coyote! You are an incredible runner. I was at the 5K clock but at that point it was just to see if people and I had to pick anybody up. Next time I volunteer it will not be so close to the start. And I will get your picture during the race. (when fast people like you run by me, I simply sprint up ahead, stop and turn around and get a good picture. It’s my workout for the day).

Great work Coyote.  :w00t:

I was looking at those crossing island on a posted video. I don't remember them during my three Bostons in the late 90's. Though other than the 100th Anniversary year, there were only 16-20K participants back then.

YESYESYES!!! I didn't realize that was just your second Boston - glad you to experience it in not horrible conditions.  You'll get there on 5DS3.  Let me know if you need a pacer for the Ineos 2:59 challenge!  :runner:
