NYCNYC!!!

Spirited races on both sides, but the customary Africans aside, how about Molly MF Seidel?

M-MF-S: *shows up at Trials*
People: "Sure she did great at shorter distances a long time ago, but she's never run a marathon and has been injured/battling demons forever.  She's gonna get blown away!"
M-MF-S:  "Second place bitches!!" (yes I'm quite confident she said "bitches" in her head)

M-MF-S: *shows up at Olympics*
People:  "Sure, she did great at the trials and London, but she's running against a metric fuck-ton of people with PRs 5+ minutes faster and isn't even the top American.  She's gonna get blown away!"
M-MF-S:  "BRONZE MEDAL BITCHES!!"

M-MF-S:  *shows up at NYC Marathon*
People: "Sure, she's an Olympic medalist, but the conditions were rough that day and they took it out so slow and left it wide open for crazy stuff to happen.  What about a race with perfect conditions at a fast pace?  She's gonna get blown away!"
Africans:  *just miss course record, with the first time three women (or like, more than one) have cracked 2:23*
M-MF-S: "4th place, minute PR, and American course record bitches!"

The bar keeps getting raised and she keeps responding in dramatic fashion.  Doubt her at your peril, because she means business.  Also follow her on the socials because she's fucking hilarious.

I underestimated her again but at least qualified that I have done that every time she has run a marathon ('cept maybe London last year where she ran 2:25 and was 5th or 6th). Had Sally Kipyego as a potential top American; Annie Frisbie was the surprise of the day in 7th in her debut, plus Taylor and Thweatt at 6th and 8th, really good day for USA women (five of the top 10).

The women's finish was exciting with the final sprint by Kipchirir and Bernard Lagat's sister Viola Cheptoo . Almost thought Cheptoo was going to catch the Olympic gold medalist.

Only watched the 2 hour delayed recording on ABC (some 6 hours later) and it was choppy/laden with so many commercials so hard to follow at times.

Men's race was also pretty good, Korir has that awkward gait--and all eyes had been on Bekele (how many gold medals does he have), Kandie (world record in the half marathon), and USA's True, so something of an upset even though he was 2nd in 2019. USA men also fared well with four in the top 10, although their times did not look as impressive. 38 year old Elkanah Kibet was 4th, Nathan Martin 5th, True in 7th, and Jared Ward 10th.

I think with the new rules Seidel and Kibet have punched an automatic ticket to the world championships in Eugene next summer, should the chose to go and if not I believe Frisbie would go for the women and Martin (who I think is unsponsored, works as a teacher-coach in Michigan) for men.

Chelsea Clinton ran under an anonymous bib and broke 4 hr, with a 3:59. I had no idea she had picked up running.

I was wondering why I couldn't find her in the results, but that makes sense - lifetime of secret service protection and all.  I remember when 4 hours used to seem so slow.  Now it seems hella fast.  Years of sloth will do that to you!

Good for Chelsea and not bad for a 41 year old woman who as far as I know, never competed.
