Commercial energy bar alternative
« on: July 04, 2021, 09:03:05 AM »
Has anyone tried to make their own energy bars?  DH is looking to make a substitute for the Cif Nutbutter bars. They have palm oil in them, which he would rather not.

We got some X bars, but those are sticky and he didn't like.

Looking for recipes, not a commercial substitute, btw.

Yes and no? Really any no bake cookie or bar recipe will do. Make the "sauce", add stuff that you like but not so much it doesn't come together and call it good.

The one granola bar recipe I use is basically this one- I like that the oats are toasted, there is a final bake, and it's not as sweet as many:

I add coconut and raisins and stuff.

What about those yummy little balls that people make. I made them years ago. I have to think what was in them. They’re a no bake item. I will come back.

Let me know if this works. Otherwise on Pinterest they’re Energy bites.

Pb, flax, honey, vanilla, oats, chocolate chips, coconut

Ice Cream, is he packing them for long hikes? Most of the homemade recipes call for coconut oil or a nut butter which ends up a gooey, melted mess in warmer temps (should be fine in the winter though).
