Track workout tonight!
We are doing 12 x 200m with 200 rest. This is a good example of the difference between a distance running speed workout and a sprinting workout. These 200's are done at slightly faster than 1-mile pace. A nice effort.
A sprint workout would have you do 200's at near an all out top-speed sprint. For masters athletes (ie old people like me), you can barely do 4 or 5 of those all out 200's before you get diminishing returns and/or hurt yourself. But dialing it back down to a distance runners' fast 200, then 12-16 reps = a good workout.
