Who's planning to run Boston next spring?
« on: October 05, 2017, 06:17:54 PM »
My daughter made the cut so I will likely be traveling up there with her and her husband... I'm assuming Ellen will be running again and I will think I saw Rochey is... anyone else?

congrats to your daughter!

Thanks! She was sweating it out.. she beat her BQ by like 4:30 so not a guaranteed entry..

It's going to be a bit bittersweet for me since we were training for me to qualify in May and we really hoped to run it together, but I have to stifle those feelings!  And just be excited for her!

I'm obviously not running, but would love to get together with fellow CHers to cheer people on.

MoS should be fully rehabbed by Spring. Maybe her daughter can get a bib for her, too?

 :nono:

Three ways into Boston.

Qualify on time.
Charity Bib.
Bandit.

Bandits are really frowned upon.
Charity Bibs start at $5000, if a charity picks you.
The qualifying window closed Sept 20.
(actually, that was the submission window, your qualifying race had to be before then)

If you were going to run Boston you had to start planning about 6 months ago,
and be a really good runner,
or be really good at raising money.

MoS may be healed by spring, but won't be in marathon shape and won't have the qualifier or charity tie in.

Every year I know people offering up a charity bib from some organization or other. The expectation seems to typically be that you are supposed to raise money (not necessarily as much as 5k), but I've definitely seen "no strings attached" offers of bibs that would otherwise go unused.

I made it by a bit, BQ-XX (-56 minutes actually but no one here would notice) and will wear cheap sunglasses to be incognito.

Clearly you don't read marathoninvestigation.com; there are all sorts of ways to get in ... they're just not legit [read: cheating]

I'm pretty sure I won't be by spring and even if I were, my marathon days are over... most likely my days of running more than 3, possibly 4 days a week are over according to my dr

way #4 - have access to a time-waived number from a local organization.  many of the local running clubs get time-waived numbers from the BAA, each club has different rules for how they award them to members.  but if you're local, it's a good path.

I believe so ... "Whose bib ...?" would be proper

If you scour social media in the days leading up to the race, you should be able to find some pre-race bib numbers posted that you can copy if you have a decent printer.   Just don't wear any identifiable clothing during the race.   Tell your daughter to just do that!   :runner:

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Let's not confuse the issue here

MoS's daughter got a legit BQ at Steamtown [under her own name, I'm assuming] and she'll be getting her own bib, so there's no need for her to take the bib-copy route here. Unless, perhaps, she wants to sneak in a friend or two, then she could just copy her own
