Badwater 2015
«
on:
July 11, 2015, 06:10:51 PM »
Badwater starts July 28th, in 17 days. It has returned to its original course. A publicity campaign backed by a congressman, local officials, athletes, and the public convinced the government agencies to start issuing permits again.

80 year old Jack Denness is entered. His PR is 51 hours so he probably won't make the 48 hour cut off. He hopes to reach 100 miles.
He was featured in the Running On The Sun documentary.

78 year old Karsten Solheim is entered. He DNFd in 2013 and didn't run the altered route in 2014.
He was featured in the Konya documentary. He is trying to become the oldest finisher ever.

70 year old Bob Becker will probably win the 70 age group, but will likely miss out on two records. Arthur Webb was about 11 weeks older than Becker when he ran 33 hours in 2012. Becker finished in 39 hours last year.
Defending champion Harvey Lewis and runner-up Grant Maughan are back again.
They are joined by course record holder Valmir Nunes.
Last year's first female Alyson Venti is back, along with 3rd placer Nikki Wynd. 2nd placer Pam Reed is not on the list.

The entry fee is $1000, plus all expenses for you and your team, assuming you meet the performance criteria.
Or you can avoid the lottery by donating $7,500 in advance, assuming you meet the performance criteria.

One guy, a former pacer for Oswaldo Lopez (who is also in this year), has gone the gofundme route.

Same course but evening start, FYI. Bob Becker is looking to do the double I believe. There are soooooooooooooo many nit picky rules this year that I would not want to run it or crew this year. Everything from what clothes your crew needs to wear to assigned pull off spots on certain climbs.

No, but I am so far out of the loop of the "in crowd" now a days.

I wanted to add, I do not do well with sleep deprivation and hate night start races that make that sleep deprivation even worse, HOWEVER, I had a dream 2 nights ago that I was running BW again and I was coming thru Lone Pine getting ready to start the ascent up Mt Whitney. The seed has been replants. Don't tell my hubby, he may divorce me.

Yes. He broke the American record in the steeple even though he fell down at the last barrier.

The results are in.
1. Pete Kostelnick, USA 23:27:10
2. Oswaldo Lopez, Mexico 25:28:32
3. Mick Thwaites, Australia 26:23:10
4. Nikki Wynd, Australia 27:23:27 first female
Record holder Valmir Nunes of Brazil was leading at the 90 mile mark when he dropped out.
Jack Denniss' last split was at mile 41
Karsten Solheim's last split was at mile 72
Pam Reed found a bib somehow. Probably knows the race director.
She was 12th overall and 2nd female.

Jack Dennes went to mile 80 I saw on his FB page. Aly Ventri was leading the women then dropped. I believe 17 DNFs? Usually there are about 5. Friends there said the night start did not make anything easier and there were different challenges because of it. The cutoff at 50.5 miles was very tight but the rest not so much. The new park superintendent seems to be pro- badwater race which is good. I'd like to be back next year in some fashion, I miss my Death Valley family.

And Bob is like the nicest guy on earth. He is very petite and a little fire cracker. His crew and pacer Alene has done the double before as well. She was great about updates during his double to keep us posted when she had a phone signal.
I am itching to get back out there. I just need to win the lottery
