I think his photog is Luis Escobar who is a great ultrarunner as well ( I believe he was in the Born to Run book as well). Jurek posted about some knee or leg pain the other day, hopefully he can rebound.

The comments on his FB posts are interesting. West coast ultra runners think that the east coast is pansy man running territory. However, the race I attempted this past fall (which coincidentally was on the AT) was TOUGH, tougher than any trail I had been on out west. There is no altitude to deal with but holey moley, some of the climbs,i could barely put one foot in front of the other and my chin was basically grazing the trail i needed to ascend

A few friends and I hiked a trail in the Catskills near the AT a couple of summers ago, the footing was really tough and steep, we all fell at various points. My one friend slipped on the descent and almost took me out domino style. That would have been ugly.

My running partner and I are trying to estimate when he will be thru PA/NJ and if we could intercept at all. Doubtful, but will still try to figure it out

I did a little AT running yesterday to see if I could get some Jurek/VP Tea mojo but all I got was a trip on a rock. Best I stick to asphalt

I was hoping I'd be able to catch him in New England when I'm out in a couple weeks, but I suspect he'll be long gone by then.

The race i DNFed in the fall was all AT in southern VA. It was AWFULLY terribly difficult. There were some climbs so steep that my nose almost scraped the trail

I ran in the Tetons twice and nothing compared to this. I was shocked at how technical the trails were, on top of that, how steep the climbs were. And the cliffs

We fly in (CT) on 7/3, which I think is day 37 for him? He should be in Maine or close to it by then. Not sure how interested I am in a wild goose chase out in those boonies.

I stalked the AT for a bit but saw no Jurek, or anyone. Got home, took a look at the tracker and looks like I headed home about 10 minutes too soon!
