Should I run it?
« on: January 05, 2015, 05:13:42 PM »
I am super out of shape. I am fat (not CHer athlete fat but actually fat...like 60 pounds overweight fat) and took the whole month of Dec off running (and was only sporadic before that). This weekend is a 15k and a 5k. I am running one or the other with a fellow CHer (she is running the 15k). The 5k starts an hour before the 15k so it would be a long wait if I run that. If I run the 15k I don't think I can run it all (5 miles runs are hard and slow for me right now and they are all I have done for a long time). Should I try the 15k and just run/walk it? Or am I asking for trouble?

What were you running during the sporadic part?

Like, I can only run a mile right now, so I'd probably bail entirely.  I could run/walk 5K.  Or I could walk 15K.  I could not run/walk 15K.

You can manage to run/walk 15K then.  But it doesn't sound that fun.

Personally, I don't think you're asking for trouble if you run/walk the 15k, as long as you take it easy.  For me, the question would be:  Would run/walking the 15k or running the 5k be more motivational to me in the long run?

 :D

I am leaning toward the 15K.  :d
I wish there was a 10K...I would be all over that. I hate 5Ks...they are too short.

I agree about the 10k!  Any race that offers so much chocolate as a reward shouldn't be shorter than a 10k.  If I ran the 5k, the food at the finish is more calories than I would have burned off.   :D

It's going to be a long 15k if you run it.

I'd do the 5k, less chance of injury.

That's when people do stuff.  When they bite off more than they can chew.

Live to run again.

Walk run the 15 k.  If you are now doing five miles, you are less than five miles away from that goal.  I ran walked a marathon after only doing a hm long run.  Woerked well. Plus, it isgoing to be motivating you to do more.

Oh I am definitely planning on more. I have half marathons planned this year.
I know I can walk it...I could walk much further. But I predict  I will he frustrated with myself for not doing well.

Me, I would do the 5k.  Waiting a bit for your friend to finish is going to be a lot easier on the ego than having your friend waiting for you to finish a 15k that you haven't really trained for.
