Tell me what I should put on my cheese plate

3-5 cheeses that will go well together and not be too overwhelming?

Every good cheese plate needs Gruyere. And a good Brie and blue cheese.

yes, room temperature is always best.

And I love a good Spanish cheese.  You can't go wrong with manchego.  There is one that I like more but I can't remember the name.  Maybe it will come to me.

Do you have a trader joe's near you?

I like a triple cream cheese of some sort. Port Salut is a great semi-soft. Not a huge fan of blue but if I do get one I go with cambazola (a delightful blend of camembert and gorgonzola). I really like the carmelized onion cheddar they sell at trader joes. But, in absence of that I like a nice sharp aged cheddar or a smoked gouda. All very approachable and reasonably priced. Otherwise, go to your local equivalent of whole foods and ask the cheese monger for some suggestions- really can't go wrong with that.

Trader joes was almost all out of cheese when I was there today. They had pretty much nothing that was advertised in the fearless flyer.  I asked this after I got home from there..hopefully they get another shipment and I don't need til the 28th. I did get crackers. Should I put raisins and apricots and nits out like in the picture? I have dates and prunes :(

I don't think it *has* to be raising and apricots.  The dates and prunes would be fine, though prunes aren't my first choice.  They're pretty sticky so be sure to have something like a skewer to pick them up.  I'd prefer dates, sliced apples/pears and quince paste personally.  And I'd do marcona almonds for nuts if you're going to put them out.  I also always put out some pitted olives.

a soft cheese (e.g. brie, camembert, oka), a semi-soft cheese (e.g. havarti, tilsit), a firm cheese (e.g. cheddar, manchego), an hard cheese (e.g. sovrano, asiago), and a blue cheese (e.g. danish blue, stilton, cambazola)

or 2 firm cheeses and skip the hard cheese

or cheese you enjoy yourself

consider having savory jellies/ chutneys, candied or spiced nuts, dried fruit, etc. available in addition to crackers.

Definitely a mix, as others have said.

I also love nuts, dried fruits, grapes, jellies or spreads (you can probably find a fig one in your grocery store).  I also like  honey with blue cheese - but it can be messy.
