4 oz baking chocolate
1/2 cup butter
4 eggs
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour

Melt chocolate and butter.  Let cool.

Beat eggs and salt until foamy.  Then gradually add the sugar and vanilla.

Add cooled chocolate mixture and hand stir until mixture is almost uniform.

Fold in the flour.

You can add nuts, chocolate chips, etc, before flour is completely mixed.

Transfer to 9 x 13 pan for chewy, 9 x 9 for cakey brownies.

Put in pre-heated 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes.

I prefer chewy, fudgy brownies.

Nuts ruin brownies! Chocolate chips are acceptable, but there's nothing like sinking your teeth into a fudgy brownie and not being met with the resistance of a stupid nut.

omit the "jammy bits" - they are a KA product, and unnecessary.

this is my husband's favorite.  in terms of sweets, they are okay - but i am not a brownie person.

i do not make the ganache topping, as he does not care for really sweet desserts.

They are 4 a 9 year old bday party. Chocolate chips sounds like a good addition. We'll skip the jammy bits and nuts.

These are the only brownies I ever make.  They are that good.

I call them Alton Brownies: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/cocoa-brownies-recipe.html
