I've been buying a box of mystery veggies from a nearby farm a couple of times a month. Its been quite a challenge with some of the ingredients, I feel like a chopped contestant at every delivery.
This week I got okra. I remembered an episode of good eats that featured the slimy podlings so I went with pickling them. I got one big jar out of it and stuck it in the fridge last night(too lazy to do all that sterilizing). I won't know for at least a month how they turned out.
Wish me luck
PS
you'd think having pickled stuff would do me some good on that foodie test, but apparently not.
I am decidedly not a foodie.

good luck!
I love okra, my GF hates it. We don't have to argue about it anymore though because you cannot buy it in Newfoundland. Occasionally it shows up in the produce section already brown and spotty and only good for compost.
-
Not a big fan of okra. I buy it frozen, if I do, and only for the sake of having some variety, esp. in the winter.
-
I love okra when it's not slimy.
My favorite is bhindi masala, an Indian dish. I also love it fried.
'Bou, next time I visit your area I will bring you okra!
-
not my thing, but i had it in Memphis battered and fried and it was tolerable.

We pan fry them whole in oil and sprinkle with paprika -- not adding any additional moisture seems to keep the slime factor down.

this sounds delicious! must by okra this week.

Whether I like any given okra depends on how it's cooked. Cooking okra so that it comes out moist and slimy is a mistake. Nobody likes it that way. So make it crisp and delicious.

I looove pickled okra. It is good deep fried also. Eh I just like it :)

Ha! When we lived there, they held a 10K the morning of the festival!
I love okra - pickled, pan fried, stewed, etc YUM!

Not running that race (and getting the t-shirt) is one of my greatest regrets. I do, however, have a Batesburg-Leesville Poultryfest 5k t-shirt.

Best sliced, battered in cornmeal and panfried, eaten with ketchup or ranch dressing. Or gumbo. :heartbeat: I love gumbo.

Pickled okra is super delicious.

This thread makes me want gumbo.
