Holy moly, today when we were at Costco, they were doing a vitamix demo, and I tried some lemon sorbet (that was green due to avocado and spinach) and holy crap, that was so good.  I bought lemons and avocados because of it!!

Courtney - Can you post the recipe?  I GTS'd the heck out of it and can't find anything like that.

Of course!!
1 lemon (with 2/3 of the zest removed)
1/3 cup sweetener (sugar, agave nectar, stevia, whatever you prefer)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 avocado
1 cup spinach
2 cups ice

Place ingredients in the vitamix in the order listed and set to frozen dessert.

So, my vitamix doesn't have pre-sets, so I'm going to look at the book I have for specifics, because there is a different sorbet recipe in there.  And I'll probably cut back on the sugar.  That seems like quite a bit to me.

360 calories, using sugar (1/3 cup = 255 cal.).
over 400 calories using agave nectar.  (1 tbsp. = 60 cal.)

This does not strike me as nutritious: more than 2/3 of the calories comes from sugar.  I think I would rather have a double serving of coca-cola:

Nutrition Facts for Coca-Cola: Serving Size 8 fl oz (240.0 g)
Amount Per Serving:  Calories 97

But how many servings is that recipe supposed to make?

I was wondering that, too. If it's a sorbet, there should be enough for 4 people.

I don't like coke, so I wouldn't choose that.  :D

However, I'd definitely reduce the sugar.  It was sodamngood, tho!!

Neither do I.  I used to love coke, then I quit, and now I cannot stand it:  so sugary sweet.  I cannot understand that I was addicted to it.

What should I make first?

What did you make first??

...being the rule-follower that I am, I started out with some of the straightforward, "getting started" recipes in the book of recipes that came with my Vitamix.  Since then, I've branched out more with regard to making smoothies.  (For the one soup I've made so far in it, I used one of the Vitamix recipes--potato, spinach, and chicken soup.  It was very good, and so quick and easy!!)

I made the hummus from the recipe book that came with the Vitamix.
Nummy!

Right now, I'm drinking a green smoothie....not from the book, just something fun:
(no fruit)
Almond milk
Spinach
Kale
Baby carrots
1/2 mini cucumber
1/3 of a lemon (peeled, cuz the peel was too thick and nasty)
Ice

Refreshing!!

I just got brain freeze...aaaaaack!

The sound ( noise ) and power still throw me off, as if I'm doing something incorrectly.
Too scary!  :skeered:

That soup recipe looked interesting. I hope to try it soon.

Actually, I was a little surprised that it's not as loud as I expected it to be (I guess, with a 2HP motor, I was expecting it to sound more like an outboard motor)!

So I made lemon sorbet tonight.  Yum!!  I cut the sugar back a ton.  2 tbsp instead of 1/3 cup.  So good.  DH was even impressed.

I don't use mine for smoothies (maybe will do a pineapple sorbet this summer though) but did make a kick ass salad dressing tonight ...

Lots of fresh basil
2 small garlic cloves
Juice from 1.5 lemons and some rind (they were small)
about 1/4c (maybe more) sesame seeds
Glug olive oil
Dash sesame oil
Glug rice wine vinegar
T cider vinegar
Salt
Water (it tasted perfect but was too thick)

It sounds funny but tasted like a basil tahini lemon dressing and with the vitamix was super smooth.  I am loving the sesame seed crushing powers.

Did a baba/hummus mix too that was only okay. The eggplant gave it an odd texture.  Really good baba just requires a lot more oil than I'm willing to use and without it somehow the eggplant "jells"?
