I stepped on the scale today and it had been two weeks since I last weighed and I was down 5 lbs!  Granted it was after my run, but I had eaten three times and I usually weigh myself after my run.  I had to get on my scale 3-4 times since I thought it was broken.. It's the lowest I've weighed in forever.  And frankly, I'm not even trying too hard right now.  I figured I'd wait until after my half next week and put another big push on then before I start my marathon training.

I am logging my food, but I have had wine and some pasta and I haven't been totally within calories. And I had upped my fitness pal to 1700 calories a day, not even counting my exercise calories.. I have been doing yoga 3x/week plus running 5 or 6 days.

Some times I think I lose better when I add some calories in.

did you buy that green dress?  Will you stiff fit into it?

Yay MoS!

I'm still struggling with binging.  Candy and bread/crackers.  I'm trying to break the binge/guilt/self-hatred/binge cycle, but it seems impossible.   It's especially annoying because I'd just gotten to a point where I was happy with how my clothes fit, happy with how I looked in the mirror.  Now I'm back to clothes being a tad too snug and looking lumpy.  Not a good feeling heading into Spring and Summer.

Shut up mini. Just because google changed it, doesn't mean in elementary school, we got it wrong.

Ugh, the only way I can gain control over most simple carbs is complete avoidance :grr: It's like a damn drug once I start; so for the most part I just don't get started...because once I do, whooo boy!

You're absolutely right; it's the insulin response that triggers massive spikes in sugar.  You're not weak; it's that damned science working against you.

I can't stop weighing myself. It's like I think that having gone into maintenance, I am instantly going to gain because I'm not losing. WTF is wrong with me. I am definitely running enough to just eat normally. I need to get out of my head on this.

Well, so much for the Mediterranean diet!  Despite walking 30,000 steps a day and watching what I ate, I managed to gain 2 lbs in Barcelona.  (it was worth it!)

Back on the wagon, though!

Considering doing a total detox.

Whole30 is on my mind. No grains, no sugar, among other things.  :yikes:

Talk me down! Will it be too much deprivation?

It's supposed to help with a lot of ailments, such as inflammation.. as well as some addictions. Right now I think I might be addicted to sugar. I got control of it last summer, but it's back in full force! I can do without bread. I can do without chocolate. Most grains. But sugar. I don't know.  :nails: I crave it. BAD.

I am totally a carb addict.. I am ok with an english muffin and egg for breakfast and sandwich with lean protein for lunch... as long as it's paired.. Bit crackers, cookies, toast, bread and butter at night set me off.. I try to not have carbs at night if possible unless I have a long run scheduled within two days or the week leading up to a race, like this week.

I'm not going to talk you down, I'm going to recommend it. :D  I love it.  I still cheat with my small bowl of oatmeal in the morning though.  Sometimes I alternate with an unsweetened coconut/fruit/nut thing, which is delicious, but I do love my oatmeal.  I haven't had bread, white potato, crackers, any of that for a few months. I do eat butter, but otherwise no dairy.  Lots and lots and lots of non-starchy veggies.  Avocados.  Lean meats.  It's the only way I've been able to control my carb addiction.  I don't miss living like that.  Plus, I no longer crave for that evening sip of wine.  I like the whole30 because it strips your diet down for 30 days, then you get to incrementally add in things week by week afterwards so you have the opportunity to feel how they affect you.

Plus I feel better.
Plus I've now lost 27# since 2/1, without blinking an eye.

I've been researching menus and food lists. I must have a plan if I am going to be successful. I tried to get DH to do it with me, but no dice. I'm still on the fence but I'm pretty sure this is going to happen in May. I have to wait until after our city's annual 2 week-long party called Fiesta. I must have my once-a-year funnel cake. It's non-negotiable.  :D

Why should we talk you down? Why would we object to anyone eating like this?  I copied this from my google search:

The Whole30 in a nut shell is, “Eat real food – meat, seafood, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats from fruits, oils, nuts and seeds”. Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re totally natural and unprocessed.

But I do not understand where the grains objection comes in.  What is wrong with plain oatmeal or rice?  To me, that is real food.

Ice cream, the cliff note version is that some people don't digest grains well and other people don't metabolize them well.  (insulin resistance).  Plus, nutritionally speaking grains are empty calories compared to veggies.

I think it's a great trial for a person to go grain free for a while.  Grain free doesn't mean carb free- the point of the whole 30 isn't to lose weight, it's to teach a different way of eating.  Many people lose weight anyway.  Eat plenty of fruits, squashes and there will be enough carbs.

I did the Eat To Live (i think that is what it was called, dr furman?) diet a couple years ago and may go back to that. It was heavily based on veggies, and limited amounts of legumes and grains. I did not lose any weight, but i was also nursing at the time, so i may try it again, gotta find where i put the book.

Plus, nutritionally speaking grains are empty calories compared to veggies.

http://www.choosemyplate.gov/food-groups/grains-why.html

Nutrients
Grains are important sources of many nutrients, including dietary fiber, several B vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and folate), and minerals (iron, magnesium, and selenium).
Dietary fiber from whole grains or other foods, may help reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Fiber is important for proper bowel function. It helps reduce constipation and diverticulosis. Fiber-containing foods such as whole grains help provide a feeling of fullness with fewer calories.
The B vitamins thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin play a key role in metabolism – they help the body release energy from protein, fat, and carbohydrates. B vitamins are also essential for a healthy nervous system. Many refined grains are enriched with these B vitamins.
Folate (folic acid), another B vitamin, helps the body form red blood cells. Women of childbearing age who may become pregnant should consume adequate folate from foods, and in addition 400 mcg of synthetic folic acid from fortified foods or supplements. This reduces the risk of neural tube defects, spina bifida, and anencephaly during fetal development.
Iron is used to carry oxygen in the blood. Many teenage girls and women in their childbearing years have iron-deficiency anemia. They should eat foods high in heme-iron (meats) or eat other iron containing foods along with foods rich in vitamin C, which can improve absorption of non-heme iron. Whole and enriched refined grain products are major sources of non-heme iron in American diets.
Whole grains are sources of magnesium and selenium. Magnesium is a mineral used in building bones and releasing energy from muscles. Selenium protects cells from oxidation. It is also important for a healthy immune system.

I'm too busy to google right now- compare nutrient density of whole grains vs. veggies.  Unenriched grains.

It was your use of the term "empty"....

BTW...ever get a response from that woman about the different ways that the body uses energy from carbs vs protein?
