Thanks, nadra! Interesting.. I was thinking that giving it rest would be better! I will get the foam roller this week for sure. Did/do you use it every day? Or just when it hurts? After a run? 10 minutes? 30 mins?

Glad you are feeling better and recovering!

I know, right?? I totally wasted it on when I was 11. I was already skinny back then!  >:(

Your ART person didnt show you when and how to use it? They really should. Ask next time you go in.

Yeah, you'd think rest would help, but I noticed that too much time off just made it worse for me.  Go figure.  When I had IT band problems, I used my foam roller after every run, until I felt the knots releasing.  When it was really bad I'd use the roller, stretch a bit, run, roll, and stretch again. I usually run in the evening, so I wasn't stretching cold muscles with that first pre-run stretch.  Generally I roll until it doesn't hurt anymore, maybe 5-10 minutes?  It's been a while since I had IT band problems so I can't remember exactly.  When you first start rolling, it will take longer than when you've been doing it for a while.  Mostly you want to make sure you're breaking up any scar tissue, since that's what is giving you the pain in the first place.

I am trying to decide if I should do the WLC.  I usually do not weigh myself and am mostly just trying to be consistent with exercise. I guess I can try it and drop out if it gives me too much anxiety.   :nails:

I got a 'massage stick' from Target for $15 the other week.  It has 3 blue spiky balls on it (the jokes are endless).  The thing is GREAT!  I should have gotten one sooner.  I do however now have a lot of bruising on my legs from using it.  There are still knots so I just use it when I'm settled down for the evening.  I'm thinking an actual foam roller would be beneficial too.

I agree with nadra that when I take extended amounts of time for a break then things get achy all over again.  I've found just pushing through it a little bit longer works for the best - unless the pain is extremely unbearable.

I have the foam roller and the stick! The roller is awesome for my legs and I use it along my upper back as well. I use the stick mostly for my neck and shoulder blades, shoulders.

I am still really sore in my glutes! I have to ease my self into the chair, and going to the bathroom sucks! (that extra inch of lowering is for the birds)

Way to go Meri and MM!!

Mouse - sore is good, right?  That's what I tell myself even if it does suck.

I only got to run 2 miles since the kids have decided not to nap & DH is at work.  Oh well, guess they'll crash early tonight.  I'm planning on a basil chicken concoction for tonight.

I made this tonight and it was fantastic!  http://www.thaitable.com/thai/recipe/chicken-basil   I added a couple Tbsp of cream of coconut to the chicken and to the rice.  It was great and easy.

Hi y'all. Drive by posting b/c we're in FL for 2 more days so there is little chance for eating healthfully or exercising.  I'll get back on the wagon with you in a few days.

Congrats to all the progress I'm reading about in here!

I own a couple that I bought last year. And then I promptly gained weight.

I have a total mom bathing suit. And I'm going to have to wear it in public this weekend for Reid's first swim lesson.  :-[  :'(

Anyone ever tried the Land's End bathing suits? I was looking at them online the other night and they have some cute ones, but at my current size, it's hard to tell how supportive they might be, you know?

ETA: Oh, and yes, that time stamp is right. Just got back from a shuffle.  :sleepy: :luvcoffee:

I had one that I liked.  My criterion was how long it would last in chlorinated water, though.

I have one (well, it's sort of a tankini-style two piece) that I like but there's no way I could have bought it online since I probably tried on 50 different suits before choosing it. They sell the Land's End suits at Sears (and the one near me actually had a huge selection last year) so you could try checking them out there first.

I think Lands End bathing suits are great.  Good coverage, supportive, high quality, they fit me well and they even come in cute styles and prints!

I bought my two-piece bathing suit--a tankini top and a swim skirt--at TJ Maxx, but didn't like the skirt, so I bought a different swim skirt at Kohl's.

This is such a wonderful idea!

In other news, I just saw some photos from my marathon last week, and man oh man, they were quite humbling and humiliating. Surely, I can't be that big:nono:

i am pretty sure, and i am not just saying this, that a lot of the photos at marathons are taken with wide angle lenses. Some are and some are not, and i really tell the difference. weird to see two different race photos from the same race and one i look great and the other i look like a cow!
