I woke up feeling worse than I went to bed but a few cups of coffee left me at like 80% so since the local tracks are finally melted off and we could get another foot of snow tomorrow I went for the interval workout.

2 mile warm up, 10x600 with 400 jog between, 2 mile cool down. I wasn't sure I would get the whole thing in but I hit all my goal times and still feel at that 80%. 10.15 miles total.

44° with a feels like index of 35° along with a steady rain for my 3 miles today.

Did a 50K skate race, largest ski race in North America. The snow was very fast, and averaged 3:18/km. The race was a blast.

The Birkie!

Bucket list (maybe) for me, I’ve only ever done one ski marathon (really only one ski race at all) and while I didn’t finish last, I was running last place a lot of the second half of the thing. Luckily I had a “sprint” in my to avoid DFL. That was 27 years ago (!)

We met a guy out where we skied last week who was heading to race the Birkie, it was his 37th year and turns out he barely lost the sprint for 1st in his age group. I think he’s ~5 years your junior, and he was racing the classic event (not skate).

Congrats on the top ten finish out of (looks like) over 130 in your age group!


(My Saturday was a 15k trail run on my local home trail, part one of a “long run” combo weekend. 8*C nice running weather)

This was my third Birkie, last one was 30 years ago in 1996. Both my sons also did it this year, so it was a great weekend.
