Camping recipes - esp Dutch Oven cobbler
« on: July 21, 2025, 12:08:10 PM »
Back in Ye Olde CH I remember having a great discussion about Dutch oven cooking. In particular, someone posted a cobbler recipe, which i subsequently made and got great reviews on.

I've been asked to make it this weekend but of course I can't find the original recipe. Anyone?

I'm thinking Witchy is my best bet here but I will gladly accept all Dutch oven recipes.

I wish I could help. I looooove cobbler but have no dutch oven. You'd think as much as I love cobbler I'd make it often but I only have a few times.

I've been googling recipes.

One that I see fairly consistently is a scout recipe that calls for canned pie fruit, a box of cake mix, and a can of soda

I feel like I can probably improve on that lol

I love Dutch oven cooking but I haven't done it in a while.

I'm making gazpacho tonight to serve with dinner tomorrow night, followed by fancy grilled cheese sandwiches, spicy pickles, and a green salad.

The cobbler will be for dessert.

I'm using the Moosewood gazpacho recipe, which inspired me to make a lunch reservation at Moosewood Kitchen tomorrow. I'm so excited, I've never been! After lunch we will head to our campsite.

The other meal I'm in charge of this weekend is breakfast on Saturday. That will be easy, omelettes cooked to order and avocado toast. And the cook will be DH, so all I have to do is prep ingredients for that.

We use the Moosewood cookbook recipes regularly. Arabian Squash Casserole, hummus, tabbouleh, and some others i don't recall right now.

Sounds like you're going to eat well!

I envy the restaurant visit, I hope it exceeds your expectations.

Where the hell were you? My cobbler came out awful!

The rest of the meal was delicious, though. And the Moosewood restaurant rocked!
