The Berlin Marathon 2023 lived up to it's fast course reputation today. Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia broke the women's world record by more than two minutes. The first woman under 2:12. Coming in at two hours 11 minutes 53 seconds to break the previous women's record of 2:14:04 set by Kenya's Brigid Kosgei at the Chicago Marathon in 2019.
Those that thought Kipchoge was washed up after a disappointing 6th place at Boston last Spring, just won the Berlin Marathon for the fifth time in a row. His time of 2 hours 2 minutes 42 seconds was more than a minute and a half off the record he set in Berlin last year. He basically ran alone after 32K.
