Do you run on lunch at work?
« on: October 02, 2019, 04:21:50 PM »
I did this last week for the first time. I only get half an hour so I only had time for a quick 3 and no shower so I probably won't do it again.

What say CH runners?

Mixed.  Lunch hour is probably the point in the day at which I'm most motivated to run.  But I also only get 30 minutes (which I could probably be a little liberal with and no one would notice since I can technically take it whenever I want), which isn't very substantial especially since I'm slow these days - probably 3 tops.  On one hand, a school setting is maybe a bit less formal than a desk job, but I'd also feel a little self-conscious about wandering around school all sweaty in workout clothes.

I can, because I WFH, but I typically don’t. I prefer mornings or after work.

I’m pretty slow so to get in any sort of real run just takes too long, I take pretty brief lunches.

Not in the summer when it’s the hottest time of day. Spring, Fall and winter, usually, yes. Though sometimes I have a meeting. Then I’ll run later or earlier.  I’ve done 10 mile training runs on a workday afternoon in the winter.

We have flexible work hours as long as you are there for core hours in the morning and afternoon. So during winter and spring (usually too hot during summer) I'll run at lunch a couple days a week, 45 - 75 minutes. So for the longer run I can usually leave my desk at 11:30 and be back by 1, without much effect to my work day. And it's easy to get in a little early or a stay a little later.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

When I was full time WFH I either ran or went to the box at lunchtime.  The run and shower generally happened within 60 min (working lunch at desk after); the drive to/from the box usually put me a little over but didn't matter b/c I worked 60 hours avg/week.  My dog would show up in the office at 11:30 with big eyes and ready legs.

Now I have a more flexible schedule and mostly work from the office so I run whenever it works best.  We built a shower in our office bathroom, gives me lots of flexibility.

no, I run mid-morning. My work schedule is designed around my exercise schedule.

Now that midday temps are reasonable I was able to grab a quick shake-out run at the start of lunchtime and still grab a bite at Whole Foods w/o being scary

Headed out to do 5xmile repeaters.  Would rather eat lunch.

Seems like this is the only time I have to run.  Plus things go much quicker.  When I'm at home, I tend to drag my feet heading out the door.  Then when I get home, I drag my feet to the shower and getting dressed.  Bigger chunk of time than it should be.

When I'm at work, it's office -> locker room -> out the door -> run -> back in -> shower -> back to work.  I'll eat at my PC to reduce the time I need to make up.  Depending on the length of my run, I just make up the time on the tail end if necessary.

still adjusting to twelve hour shifts and the new England shortening days; can't run before work, can't run after and I wonder if I just ran laps inside the warehouse if I would get into trouble.
The scientific consensus might, of course, be wrong. If the history of science teaches anything, it is humility. But our grandchildren will surely blame us if they find that we understood the reality of climate change and failed to do anything about it.

Sorry to hear that/weather?

Mine went pretty well, best tempo effort of this training cycle (going back several months). Got a little hot a the end (mid 70s), but held up. Did about 8-10 sec/mile faster than 2X 20 min I did a few weeks ago.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

Thanks.  That was part of it.  It rained (needed) right after I finished so humidity was high.  Plus I raced (half) on Saturday.  no biggie

But mostly I got to the track before work and took one more look at our small claims case notice: we had the date changed and I didn't realize they switched the time to 9 am.  Not even sure what made me look.  The defendant lives in a county an hour away.  So I called the court, called my DH to drop everything and run and we zoomed.  Listened to the Clean Sport Collective Goucher podcast.

No liquids in the courtroom, no time to eat.  Made it on time and won our case.  Then another hour back to town.

So mostly my mental game was off.  HR was fine.  I did 3 and the track team needed the lanes so I relocated for my last 2 and gave myself a little room on the pace target.

I prefer to do weights or crossfit at lunch, but probably run once every couple of weeks or so over lunch.  I can run outside from Dec-March, so will sometimes meet friends over lunch.

Working out mid-day for me is always tough. Changing/driving  to/from/shower/change is just too much time away from my desk mid day.
