Anyone else here puke out at the end of a race
« on: September 01, 2018, 10:07:14 PM »
or even while sprinting the last 100?

This sh*t is getting old. Nothing I do changes this. It used to wait until I crossed the line, but the last few have me dry heaving during the sprint.

It's happened in a couple races and workouts. Just last weekend at the end of the 10 mile I was closing in on 3rd masters with less than 0.1 to go but stared to heave so had to just cruise in, finishing 4 seconds back.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

I was running in a cross country race, when the leader stopped to puke.  Since we were pretty close to the finish and I was in second place, I thought I was going to win.  So, I passed him and picked up the pace. Then, he went by me like I was doing a "cool down" and went on to win the race.  It seemed, at least that day, puking in a race isn't a bad thing.

I don't do sprints.  Long ago when I did a mile race, I almost upchucked, but held it in.  Did have a bad coughing fit after a half marathon, since I had a cold at the time.

It ruined many of my races in the nineties. I only lost one PR when I started to barf with 50 yards left in a 5K time trial at Milton Academy. I got so bad I stopped racing. Not a problem anymore since I can't sprint.

I have a gag reflex and a build up of phlegm can tickle my throat.

After a hard run I often get coughing fits so severe I get dry heaves
and basically seem to be dry puking.

A couple of times I did hard workouts and had to give up because I wanted to puke.

It happens, running on an empty stomach seems to help.

Okay, over the past month dry heaves in 2 workouts and a end of the 10 mile race. Today I was in my 5th of 7X 1000 m reps and had to stop at 750 m. I took 20 or 30 sec to regroup and finished the rep and the rest of the workout. However, it sort of came up over the final meters of the last rep when I was trying to accelerate some. So the key is to recognize it coming on and then back down just a hair, i.e., to work through it. At least that's what I'm going to try.
I'll stick to running, thank you.

Not since high school when I had a meatball sub just before track practice and the Coach had us do some 400 meter repeats in < 60 seconds.
